OutdoorNZ: Couples should communicate ... if someone needs space and time out, that's different ... going cold can be a manipulation tactic...
It’s true, what you said though what triggers a person to purposely put themselves in a position where they have to manipulate another? What are they actually feeding by portraying such behaviour?
Silent Treatment is a learned behaviour. Silent Treatment is a Controlling Behaviour The silent treator is insecure. The silent treator is a poor communicator. Silent treaties are usually selfish.. Of course there is therapy for this behaviour. The perpetrator harbours resentment which can destroy a relationship. They must face their own demons and admit they are demanding and incapable of communicating what they really want and that they are resentful that it wasn't given to them.

That's manipulating yourself out of doing something you would regret, it's your behaviour controlled by yourself - a completely different thing entirely.

Silent treatment is used by submissive narcissists to get even for a perceived wrong.
Romans 12:19 KJV Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
I think it is supposed to be a form of allowing one to think on what they have said or, an act they did that was not pleasing to their partner, I disagree with a lot that people have said about it being a form of punishment even though I don't follow what my mama said growing up she always said, if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all, a form of silent treatment, I think Men do it to women, women do it to men. And what about the stink eye? I used to get that from my sister if I did something that ticked her off, I did not like the stink eye
