My Primary Care Doctor retired last year and had her for years. Finding out just how good I had it as been through a few who these days do not even take calls after hours. Calling an 800 number where you get a gate keeper. If you are lucky you get a return call within several hours. Then found a Dr who is connected with the local hospital and takes calls after hours. Thought this was great until she left town a few weeks. Back to square one as who wants to deal with the doctor on call's office relaying that they have their own patients and after saying it would be taken care of.

Never, had a Doctor's office say anything unprofessional before. Doubt this action is allowed, but been relayed to my Doctor's office that they don't want to deal with. Probably compensation is at the root of it! Maybe a Health Care crisis as we are short alot of Primary Car Doctors

I understand the uncertainties and frustration in finding a doctor who recognizes that care is still a important part of the compound word 'healthcare.' I face several specialty doctors retiring in the near future. I had to find a new primary doc several years ago. I looked for and found a pediatrician who also sees adults. She cares about her older patients as much as she cares for children. Only thing I don't like about seeing this doctor is putting up with all the animal pictures on the exam room walls. Otherwise, We have an excellent rapport. Good luck.

It happens with evening and over-night nurses and caregivers who need to get ahold of a doctor for a stat order, transfer, etc...They are incredibly slow to get back (usually through an answering service) and then are SO nasty about having to deal with it. Heads up, physicians and interns: the medical field is NOT M-F 9-5!! If it is that inconvenient for you, DON'T go into the field!! frustrated frustrated

When I look at my Explanation of Benefits (EOB) by the time Medicare takes their 80% and supplemental plans take their 20% there isn't much left for doctors services. Most, not all, of them don't give the best medical care whether in forms of communication or inpatient services. Don't think that I am defending doctors because I haven't found a good one since I moved. Somehow doctors need to make up the financial burden of what they aren't getting from Medicare and the one place they can cut back on is the nurses and attendants which isn't fair.

Medicare re-imburses physicians and related clinicians 80% of the total bill. For example, if your doctors' visit cost $220.00 (fairly standard these days) he or she receives $176.00. Unless the patient has secondary provider coverage, the patient is billed the remaining $44.00. Medicare does not "make" money. It is an insurance product with a deductible. professor

Yeah that's what I said. I have a supplemental plan that I would only have to pay $20 of that $44.00 example you made.

If the $44.00 was $344.00 I would still only have to pay $20 because I chose a plan that $20 is the maximum I had to pay regardless of how much wasn't paid by the supplemental plan. I'd rather keep the money in my pocket instead of giving it to the insurer.
