Just wondering -- I just spent 7 months on another site, lots of great people over there, but it seemed the site was geared for older people who had kids and grandkids, and had an inordinate number of alcoholics.
A lot of the mainstream mebership seemed appalled by the idea that there could actually be people living in the world today who had no interest whatsoever in kids or drinking....I'm not trying to be judgmental about that, just that I've experienced enough situations to know what works for me and what doesn't.
And it occurred to me that, ultimately, it's the members who define the parameters and the "feel" of any site. Because, when you get right down to it, a site really is nothing more than the people who sign up and participate and write posts and read posts and interact.
So, how is it here? I haven't been here long enough to really get a feel for the place yet. But I heard good things about CS from some people on the other site, and, frankly, I'm hoping to find some place where people are a little more open-minded than they were over there....
nontraditional meaning childless and alcoholicless?
i have children, but surprisingly they haven't driven me to alcoholism....
i think it's pretty ok here, the forums are good for people who want to talk about whatever
and i've managed to get a few dates
and i think it's fairly open as to what kind of relationships you are looking for.....dating, flirting, chatting, friendships....it seems to be a pretty good place for singles to hang out who have nothing better to do (like me!!)
but after a few months, it loses a little of it's charm
but maybe that's because i'm in a rural area, who knows
Let's see, I'm 61. I have a grandson. I'm in love with my neighbour's hamster. I fry spinach. I throw small stones at airplanes. Been married a couple of times. Slim Shady is OK with me. I believe that guns should be available to everyone, but bullets should cost $4000.00 each. I get lonely at times. The scent of a woman, you know that feeling. Yes there are older peeps on here, but the brain doesn't age. Welcome, but remember that Mary Poppins was a junkie. Paws
Thank you, everyone, for the feedback. (And Kid, you look vaguely familiar....!!)
As a writer, I tend to seek a venue where I can feel comfortable with writing about whatever is on my mind at the moment....I hope this is such a place....
Just to clarify a couple of points -- when I was much younger and dumber and naiver (yes I know that's not a word, but it's consistent with the other comparative words, so I will pretend it's legitimate), I was involved with several older, divorced women who had kids. I quickly learned that they weren't looking for a relationship at all; they were simply looking for someone to come in and play daddy. I almost as quickly learned that I had absolutely no interest in, nor aptitude for, parenting. Simply put, I took to parenting like a moose takes to a flight simulator.
The non-alcohol thing stems from experiences with several people I truly loved who destroyed themselves (in a couple of cases, literally) by drinking. I just don't want to be around it. Some people think that's weird, but I've always been a firm believer in "preventative medicine." I quit using all drugs and alcohol about a month after my 22nd birthday, and will never touch any of that stuff again. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I'm just saying it's wrong for me....
All I'm saying is everybody has their own individual set of preferences and needs. And I think it's important to respect that, even if we don't necessarily always understand it....
