I've never been able to figure this one out myself.
So much easier to detect compatibility in person. Perhaps that's why I have never been successful with relationships initiated online.

it takes time to get to know someone and you can get caught up in the moment but in time you do get to know the person. But the real test is meeting face to face. If there is no chemistry there well then it not a waste of time you will have made a good friend

It is so hard to know. I think you almost have to wait until it gets to the point where you can actually talk to one another. Then you have a better idea if you really feel attracted to them.
But it can be a long time to wait. And it is great fun to get mail and flowers! So, just enjoy it for what it is. I think you have to let go of a little bit of controll and just ride with it. That is the only way to see where it will end up.

You cannot win unless you play...thats what they say.anyway.
Many times the investment is great and returns are little if any... yep no guarantees and the butterflies in the stomach prove it.
But when its real the time and price invested is miniscule to the happiness and joy one feels.

I was talking to a man on a dating site that said he was talking only to me and he was saying such sweet things to me, so tricked him and made up another profile and contacted him in that other id. He said the same thing to the other me that he had said to me. lol That went on for a while when finally he said he had met someone else that he liked better. It was the other me. I finally told him what I had done and he was pissed to say the least that he was caught. He refused to speak to either of me then.
