Can't wait for Frank Miller to start making more of his stuff into movies...I thought they did real well with an ancient, and epic story, bringing it to life in a way that can actually connect with a contemporary human.
I'm a martial history buff, myself, and Thermopylae is a battle that will live forever in my mind as the ultimate "underdog does good for those he loves" story, and furthermore, its true.
Anyways, if you've seen this movie, what did you think of it?

I dithered over it yesterday in the rental place because I wasn't sure how bloody it was. I ended up watching a POT called Pathfinder with lopped off heads and hands and general bloody mayhem. I'll be picking up 300 tomorrow. At least it has socially redeeming historical value!
If you're concerned about blood, you may not want to Dor. It's gory as heck...but then, Thermopylae was one of the bloodiest battles in all of history, so its accurate at least...your choice.
Yeah the only part they didn't shw was the night before the final batle where they all bathed and combed their hair and prepaired their bodies for death.
So you'd recommend it then, Tracy?? I loved Quo Vadis, Spartacus, Ben Hur ...... all that kinda thing, and adored Gladiator!! So would it appeal to me? Mind you, I'm not too happy with excessive and gratuitous blood and gore........ (Gladiator wasn't too bad).
Also, I haven't seen "Troy" yet with Brad Pitt....... any good??
Well, its authentic in terms of the blood, Alison...its not gratuitous in my opinion. 300 men holding off over 12,000 Persians for three days would tend to get a bit red, if you know what I mean.
Troy wasn't as good, in my opinion...maybe cinematically, but the history was bent all out of shape in that movie...
Thanks for that, love......... I will certainly give it a go then. Its just that I am a little squeamish, though I appreciate the battles, etc in those times weren't all hearts and flowers.
Maybe I won't be in such a rush to see "Troy" though but, to be fair, "Gladiator" wasn't truly accurate........ a little artistic license perhaps??
What made me laugh about Gladiator was when the boy was asking Maximus about the metal horses on his breast-plate. One was called "Scarto" and the other "Argento"...... translated meant "Trigger" (a hair-line trigger device) and "Silver"....... ahhhh, Ridley Scott's humour, eh??
I haven't seen it yet but I just bought the CD last night...I heard it was a fantastic movie....I am looking forward to seeing it....anyone wanna join me?....
Well, con...its your choice...I pre-warn anyone squeamish about the amount of gore in the movie...but if you can get past the blood, the sense of honor, duty, and sacrifice in this movie left a lump in my throat...
