I have been taking paxel for years for a panic disorder, which has helped. I have been told that paxel can cause suicide thoughts and I should get off it. My doctor said depression causes suicide and that paxel is the best for anxiety. I tried to go off it myself and had bad side effects, like zapping in my head etc.

Do you think the doctor is right and I should stay on them or still try to get off of them?

Hi Kitty wave

Do you have suicidal thoughts though? You don't have to answer that if you don't want too.. but if you have been on it all these years.. surely you would have suffered with them by now?

Sooo... if you don't... then maybe they are just fine..

All meds have SOME kind of side effect (good or bad)

Not that I'm a doctor.. but IMO he is right.. depression causes it.

People don't do it without their own good reason. (IMO)

I think it is important we all have trust in our doctors, however, a second opinions could be very enlightening for you.

Listen to your doctor but do know that Paxil causes addiction and in some cases the patient can not be weaned off of the med.My girl's father will be taking it for life. When he tries to wean himself off he gets physically sick and extremely violent, his system can no longe rdo without it.
Never try to wean yourself off of any medication without the proper medical supervision.

did i hear that you tried to go off it yourself?

i cant even do that successfully w/ blood pressure medication

i have a knowledgeable pharmacist that sounds plainer to me
than my doctors' explanations sometimes
and also there is also a second opinion..?

playing chemist is never a good idea...

all side effects while getting on or off a drug can lessen or worsen
thats why a doctors supervision is suggested.

slow down sweetie
sometimes anxiety will cause one to act hastily yes?

wave

your timing is impeccable wolf-laugh

yes indeed there are worse things than being on paxi
especially considering the alternative-
like a heart attack caused by anxiety trying to get off it

and that doesnt just go for paxil...or anxiety-lol

I agree w/the 2nd opinion idea.... I think it's a drug that has to be "weened" from though....seems like I faintly recall that from someone I knew?
