A few years back,I found a ladybird in my front garden ON NEW YEAR'S DAY!!!!!!!!!

This is totally TRUE.It was bitterly cold and there she was.

I took it as a sign from the universe that I was going to have the BEST YEAR EVER.

It can't have been that bad actually,'cause I don't remember it............roll eyes

Ladybirds are little insects........that eat even littler insects. That's actually just one of the reasons that I love them so.
They don't have feathers but they have wings and they can fly......angel

We used to say this rhyme as kids....

"Ladybird ladybird fly away home,
Your house is on fire and your children are gone,
All except one and that's little Ann,
For she crept under the frying pan...."

Situational Nursery Rhyme
"Ladybird, ladybird" would be chanted by a small child when this pretty, little, inoffensive insect landed on their person. If the ladybird did not fly away of its own accord the child would gently blow it away chanting "Ladybird Ladybird fly away home". This insect is commonly found every summer in the gardens of Britain - the most common colour is red with black spots, less common are the yellow variety. This nursery rhyme is purely situational and has no basis in history for its origins.

This thread made me smile ..... We also get the little ladybirds here, but more prolific is a longish beetle, yellow with black dots, that eats roses........

.... The old lady next door, who has beautiful rose bushes, was getting ready to spray around her property, and chatting to my 6yr old grand-daughter.... who loves insects, she calls them her natural pets, result of my have brainwashing about not keeping creatures in cages.

The kid was horrified that the old lady was going to Poison the beetles! and offered to collect them all in glass jars and take them away.... this kept kid occupied for about a week ..... she brought them all home and let them loose in our garden, where we got no roses .... so guess where they must have returned to? The old lady (yes she is Older than me) never did spray again ... afraid of the wrath of a 6yr old?

I hate to bring up this topic but it's true - the native British ladybird is being taken over by immigrant ladybirds that are all different colours.........it's like our cute red squirrels being pushed out of their habitat by grey squirrels!

We kept the poxy French/continental rabies from our shores, but now these dammed illegal ladybird immigrants are taking over our countryside and multiplying like crazy - thank God that these little insects don't have the vote or I'd be homeless in no time and have to emmigrate myself.......hmmmm, Malta seems a nice place to go and live! help reindeer grin

I read about these immigrant ladybirds in some science bit of a magazine - I think they were some asian form of ladybugs............ maybe if they were latin American ones and could samba they'd be even more cute? dancing

Oh go on with you ... you looooove bringing up this topic, huh? And HOW did the illegal ladybirds arrive? On a boat, I betcha! Or maybe they flew in?

See? These things happen in all walks of life .... from the teeniest little bugs up to the grossest of humans ....we all have the same problems. Except the Polar Bears, but they just got that problem with the frozen C02`s or something hey?

Well, just think Rusty .... It`s better than being a baby seal ... they get clobbered over the head and their fur taken off. Or you could have been born a Muscrat, I hear that is even worse, or is it the Ermine that is more popular for fur coats?

... So, just be grateful that you a human being, albeit a minor one, but less minor than the above would-be fur coats.

I think we'd better all start praying to god.......

Seems no one here has really accepted any theory of evolution OR can accept (with grace) that life on this planet is all about change.......and change does hurt,I know......

Maybe if we all pray hard enough, god will stop things changing (about time too!!)........
Maybe he could even rewind us back a couple of hundred years!!!!!to the good old days!!!!

Good thing for us the dinosaurs didn't pray........I don't think (not actually very sure about my last point).
