Besides, one wouldn't need to advocate the legality of driving under the influence of marijuana to advocate its legalization. PLenty of legal drugs, including alcohol, are not legal to use while driving or operating "heavy machinery."
Not one death? At the risk of throwing gasoline on the fire, that is an absolutlely false statement. How about Rick Gates, the Conrail railroad engineer that killed several while high behind a locomotive back in the 80's? One of the most publicized cases of marijuana use in U.S. history? To say there have been no deaths directly linked is just naive. Citing statisics on alcohol related deaths is almost irrelevant to the conversation in a way. I'm sure statisically more people do die from alcohol realted deaths, just like cars accidents. That's not really the issue. It's leagal to drive and it's leagal to drink. It's not however leagal to use pot at the moment.
I'm not saying it's wrong or right to either, that's an entirely different debate. I would like to know which canadidate brought it up though. To me it seems like an insignificant subject considering everything else that's wrong with this country. How about a healthcare sysytem where people don't have to choose medicine over eating? To speak about leagalizing pot is a madia ploy to grab headlines, a gimmick for attention. If anyone does find ou who please let me know. I'd be curious to see there stance on important issues.
Sounds like a Ron Paul statement.........maybe Kucinich? This country could use more bad habits...do we want to end up like Denmark or the Netherlands?
Most Dems have openly opposed cigarette smoking in public, so one would imagine they'd be opposed to pot smoking, if one follows logic.
Jeeze Indy, I was waiting for you to weigh in on this thread because I thought for sure you'd know who said it!
I'm getting angry that I'm not allowed to smoke my cigarettes but now people are gonna be allowed to smoke pot. I doubt it would ever pass anyhow. If you find out who said it, please do update me.
Since when do politicians follow logic? I'm surprised they haven't tried this already. What better way to get and remain in power than to get the population high. Supposedly intelligent people now fall for the lies and propoganda of the political machine. How much more could they get away with if they could succeed in legalizing drugs that would further contribute to apathy?
One problem with Pot is,that the Psychoactive Ingredient of the Drug (Tetrahydrocannabinol) stays in the System much longer than Alcohol does, since Alcohol is watersoluble, while THC is NOT. Treatmentcenters are seing a fair amount of Cannabis Induced Paranoia, which in same cases is irreversible, because of the amount of time THC remains in the System. I am neither for or against legalizing Cannabis,if someone wants to smoke it that's O.K. with me. I used to!!! Today ,if I put a Substance into my System,I want to know beforehand about the possible effects on me.
Knowing the Politicians they will cobble together something advantageous to themselves.
This Post is NOT intended to step on anyones Toes!
Legalizing pot would probably be better for the economy. Think about how many people we've got in jail for possession of marijuana or growing marijuana. The numbers would surprise you. I know the Sioux City jail where my exboyfriend's mother worked was crammed full of them.
Those people are costing us money to support their dumb butts in jail, plus I'm sure that we're paying for their attorney fees. Think of the salary we pay the judge.
Simple solution: Make pot as legal as alcohol, but has the same restrictions as alcohol while driving and due to the fact that you can get a contact high, you cannot smoke it in a public place only the comfort of your own home.
Tax those who grow it/supply it, less people in jail, better for the economy.
By the way, I do not smoke it. I tried it a few times years ago. It was an interesting experience until I ended up getting sick in the bathroom for at least an hour from eating an entire pan of cake brownies because I had the munchies and couldn't stop eating thm. Not so much fun then and not an experience that I would choose to relive.
JMO, you don't have to agree with it, but from my view point it makes sense.
They would legalize it, then set up state run addiction clinics to get you off it. That's the way it is here in the U.S., costing 2 x as much in taxes as what they'd bring in. It's no wonder the U.S. is sinking financially.
If anyone here in Switzerland is getting caught driving under the influence of Cannabis,he can kiss his License Good Bye,goes for any other Drug, legal or illegal.
I don't have any strong opinion on pot...to each his own, but I sure as hell don't want my pilot or doctor being stoned. I have an interest in self-preservation.

If the Federal Government was a private industry, every Senator and Representative would be in prison for "income fraud"....the way they run this country.
(Presidents too)~~~!
(I may have just hi-jacked the thread...) Hope not!
