What do you think of inter racial marriages? Do they work? Does the clash of cultures make great hardships? Or does love overcome all barriers?

They do!

Actually, the clash of cultures worries more the westerns when in western countries. When they get to go to the..."exotic" countries, all they want is to get mixed with the natives and it works!
I aint no from Amazonia, mixing is completely natural to me!
A white american went to Mozambique, he just couldn't avoid going against his principles: he is married to one of my best friends for 6 years, they've got two wonderful boys...and worse, he challeneged America with that reality, they live in North Carolina for now, where he is a doctor- just to say that it not only happens in low class as it is portraited!
And, this is the reality that i grew up with actually!Too many westerns got into my family or the other way around! I guess it also has to do with that the reality is not only what the media shows, when you face different truth in real life, you just get amazed!
I'm happy to know many sides, so, really don't care, as long as there is understanding.

Love overcomes all barriers ..... I think its a perfectly natural way to bring fresh blood into different races. People with hang-ups over their own "culture preservation" would not seek out a different culture to mix with? So that leaves the open-minded ones to refresh society......?

Yes.. Even I have the same opinion. Love and mutual respect overcome all barriers. But inter racial marriage is not the cup of tea for those who don't respect other cultures. I think that you have got to believe that there is no wrong or right in this world. It is just different ways of doing things and you have got to accept it.
But then... wouldn't life be sooooo boring if everything is the same? Atleast for me differences are exciting and that keeps me interested .. :-)
So I think inter racial relationships can work.. but you have to be a lot matured to accept differences.

It works best if they live in the same Culture.
Otherwise I'd say it is a Gamble.

Regarding wanting 'citizenship'.

I have met so many people in such marriages, both 'victims' and 'victimizers'. I think BOTH parties are normally aware of the other's motive.

They are both desperate for different reasons. Most of the victims I have met are desperate. They don't believe they can find love with other people and endure a lot of crap for that.

A symbiotic relationship perhaps but still good for each other!

thumbs down

Comes to the worst when a baby gets involved in it all. thumbs down

I've only visited three states of the USA - Georgia, Alabama and Florida..........all 'redneck country' places. I couldn't believe how segregated people were there and how even Christians went to separate churches - black Americans make going to church an almost all-day very joyful occasion while a lot of 'white' churches have really frightening preachers who jump up and down and scream and shout and the sweat pours off them in bucket fulls - I found it quite distasteful and just wanted to walk out.

However, I married an American redneck woman and we did try to overcome our cultural differences.

There's a lot to be said in meeting somebody from a totally different culture, falling in love and getting married and having kids and living happily ever after........ but there is also a theory that you're better off marrying somebody from your own culture who shares your own values, language etc.

I've never married an English woman - I have to admit I don't understand most of them anyway! I married a very decent Irish woman, then a German woman (who I'd have given my life for but it didn't work out) and then finally the American lady whose culture takes every word of the bible literally - yikes!

I can tell you why I feel more at home here in Gozo/Malta than anywhere else. I might be a foreigner here but it's a place between where I was born (Africa) and where my roots are from (UK).......... plus now Malta is in the EU and I'm an EU citizen so technically I could even stand here as an MEP (member of the European Parliament).

Vote 'Rusty Knight' and I promise you 'thingies' and a big kiss - ok? grin

I,ve been bitten twice by the same snake. The second one was culturally very closed. I was the open one. Yes it can work, but only if both parties are open and respect each others cultural background.

Hi guys...

I believe that love overcomes all, if you happen to meet the right person in the right place at the right time!!

I have only been in love twice with a 25 year span!! (and that's with foreigners)

Unfortunately both didn't work out....

The first because we didn't happen to live in the same country and relocating was impossible for both of us, wrong place.

The second simply because it was too soon for her to commit (after her recent separation)....wrong time!!

So personally I blame it on logistics...not culture!!

That's my life story....wish you all a happy life!!
