Yesterday I told you about the plan being hatched by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. He wants the government health service to be allowed to seize the organs from a dead Brit unless that person has signed a card saying that he doesn’t want his organs taken for transplant. The presumption here is that the government owns you … and your organs … and you have to take a proactive step to get the government to leave them alone after you go tango uniform.
Let’s see … I’m coming up with a new plan here. There are a lot of people out there who don’t have enough stuff. Maybe we need a law in this country that would allow people to scan the obits. As soon as they see that someone has died they can rush to their home and take anything of value they want. If you don’t want people taking your stuff after you die you’ll have to post a sign saying so on your front door.
Remember .. in Britain, as in the United States .. the trend is for the government to exercise its ownership rights over you. You, and everything you produce, belongs to government. You get to keep enough to keep you complacent.

Are most Brits comfortable claiming your body upon your death? Is there anything sacred? I would love to hear opposing views...because I don't think I grasp the concept of government owning someone's body?
In response to: Yea but if Im dead................Maybe I should just pretend to be dead and then ooooooooh the mind is wandering. Bloody hell I hope it comes back.
Indy, in the UK as you know, it is an opt in system, here in Spain it's an opt out system. In my opinion the Spanish system is better.....why not make organs readily available?
Am I going to miss my eyes or my liver or anything else for that matter once I'm dead?

I don't think the State has the right to take ownership over one's body upon death. If a person wants to donate body parts, that's fine. Locally, we can sign our drivers lisc. acknowledging it's okay to harvest organs. I agree w/Neal Boortz's view that the State has no "right" to just take your organs. I'd say that God gave me the organs to begin with...not the state....and it's my personal preference to take them with me when I depart.
I can try to play Devil's Advocate, but I don't know how well I can support this stance. Here goes...
People have not taken enough personal responsibility in signing organ donor cards so the government needs to step in where citizens are lacking and ummm.... take organs?
You were born on that country's land. That country has the right to any non-conscious object on that land and once you die you aren't conscious?
The coroners are really bored and since they are government employees, they can't be paid for idle hands, and so.....
Ok, yeah.... I can't make any plausible argument here to support it. So I'll just admit I'm totally against it.
Yet another fine exapmle of government trying control the peopleunder the guise that it's for "the greater good" Personal freedom of choice is becoming more and more of an illusion and less of a reality.
I suppose that since they feel your organs are not yours but theirs for the taking, the next logical step is to tell you what you canand cannot do to them. After all they can't use lungs that are cigarette damaged, livers that are alcohol abused etc.
