Should we strive for perfection in the knowledge that perfection doesn't exist?

Should be just accept imperfection and settle for a lot less?

This doesn't have to be a relationship question - treat it whichever way you like........ I'm interested in what makes people happy and have noticed that people who strive to have things 'just right' often acheive more - but are they really happy or is nothing ever enough?

The other side of the coin.......... for those that are very laid back - are they really happy or would a shot of 'perfection seeking' do them good?

What do YOU think? I'd be really interested in your replies. Thank you. thumbs up

In response to: Should we strive...?

Yes.

In response to: ...in the knowledge that perfection doesn't exist?

Rather very remote. Do you have the knowledge that it does not?

In response to: Should be just accept imperfection and settle for a lot less?

I bet you know this one: GOD, give us the serenity to accept what cannot be changed; give us the courage to change what should be changed; give us the wisdom to distinguish one from the other.

In response to: This doesn't have to be a relationship question - treat it whichever way you like........ I'm interested in what makes people happy and have noticed that people who strive to have things 'just right' often achieve more - but are they really happy or is nothing ever enough?

Lower satisfaction leads to higher stress. Are stressed people happy?

In response to: The other side of the coin.......... for those that are very laid back - are they really happy or would a shot of 'perfection seeking' do them good?

Possibly, they are. For they have achieved their level of perfection. And you want to open their eyes and make their world imperfect? Take away their happiness? That's evil. Provided they are not just hiding in their own shell, then they are miserable.

In response to: What do YOU think? I'd be really interested in your replies. Thank you.

Here you are. Does it make any sense to you?

Wow!

A good reply from a thoughtful, intelligent sentient being!

Thank you for your well-thought out response......

Should we discuss this further over a glass of wine, perhaps?

Being a Virgo you hit me on a sore spot Rusty! Virgos and perfection go hand in hand!

I try to be as perfect as possible in everything I do and in every aspect of life, wheter it's work, motherhood, friendship or relationships. I am not saying I seek a PERFECT partner nobody is perfect not even me. What I mean is I give my utmost in everything...that's how I am!

I've learnt that in this life NOTHING is perfect though, which can leave me disappointed at times.

Are you inferring that you'd look down on a poor old rusty knight?

You mean to say I'd have to get my parts replaced with shiny stainless steel or even titanium?

I wonder if you've perfected making a nice pot of tea......... done the geisha girl tea making course yet?

You're such a meanie! tongue rolling on the floor laughing hug

Aye as Brunny siad ... perfection is not easy to achieve.. but it does give something to set a goal for or at least aspire to something which nowadays doesnt seem to be the case anymore

I personally like to set myself a hard to reach goal everyday and challenge myself to reach it ... if i do its been a perfect day and i go to bed happy lol

Yes it does do u good at least having to be able to aim for something just ut of reach coz if u dont get it ...its humbling but if u do ..its a uplifting feeling :P

Noone is perfect but it damn well helps to try to be .... seeking perfection also gives confidence as it makes u brave up to wanting to better yourself too in some cases peace

It's the little imperfections in us that makes us unique, and more interesting individuals

I also have believed that nothing is worth doing unless done well. Yet, there are only 24 hours in a day....and some things... we need to just get done (albeit imperfectly). Otherwise....we'd end up in a mental institution. On the other hand where morals, values and relationships with others are concerned, I don't believe that we shouldn't strive for *perfection*.

Materialistically.... perfection is subject to perception.

I actually agree with Jacko on this one and think its the imperfections that make us, us!
Anyway i wouldnt want a perfect parter as it would also emphasis my imperfections and make me paranoid. So im happy with my nearly perfect man.

Perfection... what does it mean?????? What is perfect for me is not perfection for someone else. My idea of the perfect day, the perfect man, the perfect book are going to be very different then someone else's.

I think the best we can do is live a lifestyle that is perfect for each of us, to strive to accomplish the things most important to us and to try to experience as many perfect moments as we can achieve in our life... and so much of that is just opening our eyes, our hearts, and our minds to what happens around us each day.bouquet

Yup - perfection exists, but only in the mind.........!

Nice post of your's bibiza..........I'm just being silly (comme d'habitude)

Good to be silly, I've been to serious lately... involved in to many of the political type threads, but I have such a lovey dovey group of friends that we never have debates and sometimes it's good to stretch the brain a bit, but I think maybe enough is enough, time for some silliness! Speaking of... what happened to Lago?

When does a "Work in Progress" become Perfect?

Living to the Best of my Ability A Day at A Time.
What other perfection do I need?

Progress rather than Perfection!
The Problem might be that Humanity has been given Too many Unattainable ""Moral Codes"" in its History
Hung the Breadbasket so high,Humanity is dying of Hunger.
That Fellow Tantalus comes to mind, except that was Water, but the principle is the same.

"The quest for perfection" is the excuse I use whenever I re-arrange the furniture..... or the garden landscape.
