trish123: How come lipstick doesn’t do what it says?
Now this is one I've always wondered about. Lipstick is such a total waste of time on me, it's gone in 30 minutes or less. Then my lips feel dried out and it's time for the lip balm. Why don't I just start with that?

Thank you Jeff for this grammar lessons. Your very good at explaining. I know I am making mistakes with the above. I am keeping this and printed it off.
sometime it is just a matter of trying too type fast. Notice, I did not capitalize the word at the beginning of the sentence. I am not stupid, I just choose not to go back and change it.
Placing an apostrophe after a word before an "s" as in "Cave's" renders the word into a possessive form (or, alternatively and less formally, adds an "is" to the word). "Cave's" does not mean numerous caves, but rather could mean: "The cave's deep in the mountain" or "The cave's depths are beyond measure."
When you want to make a word plural, don't add an apostrophe to its end - simply add an "s." (Sometimes the word requires an "es" or other variations, but generally you'll be okay with just an "s".)
what does it means when the apostrophe goes after the word? i.e Jones'
OUTRAGEOUS: With your spelling skills you would have been hard pressed to win a Spelling Bee. You should be welcoming the opportunity to learn more about your own language, instead of begrudging it.
Feeling offended by a fellow country-man contributing to preserve the purity of the langauge, written and spoken, says something about your self-steem.
Maybe his advice was unrequested, but needed none-the-less...
As a non-native English speaker I grab these opportunities and welcome them. I don't find it distasteful nor offensive. If he had named someone and pointed out the grammatical and ortographic errors, then it would be offensive... otherwise, I think it is a really good post, specially for this International Forum where non-native English speakers find information and a means to improve their communication skills.
For waht is worth, thank you Jeff <Ambrose>
Ooopps! Thisngs happen when you try to type at the same speed of thought! Corrections: It should read "language" not "langauge"
I think, i get why americans would confuse the spelling of words like; 'than' and 'then'. Their pronounciation for both, sounds almost the same, to me. .laugh:
We ( me, whoever, and brits), on the other hand, pronounce 'than' without the 'twang'. Now, picture Pierce Brosnan and Brad Pitt saying 'than' and 'then' repeatedly.

I rather picture Brad Pitt doing something else, not necessarily talking
