Morning Jeff and Welcome to CS. I have been here since the end of Jan of this year. Great forums with lots of great people. I have made lots of friends here.
Just be yourself and get active in the forums and eventualy you will warm up to everyone and you will see its not hard. But must warn you though. This site can be quite addicting lol

Greetings & welcome.
First, let me suggest you post a picture.
The majority or the people online want to see who they're dealing with. You'll find it's going to be easier to get a conversation going if you give them a face to add to the conversation.
Secondly, please be patient. I can not stress this enough. Many women are simply bombarded with letters from guys who litterly spam the mailboxes of each & every breathing female on Earth. No joke. It can be disheartening at first, having to wonder if they got your note and/or are interested in the least. Try not to take it personally... the net dating game has 4-5 men for each woman.
Thirdly, if you do meet someone but they're not what you're looking for, please try not to be nasty about it. I know it sounds first grade but, really it's kind of a no brainer. Women talk, plain & simple. If you end things politely, no one has anything negative spread around & you are still ahead of your game.
Just be yourself & don't try to be anything but that...
give them the chance to get to know the wonderful parts of what make you who you are.
