GROWING FAMILY

12:00 AM CDT on Saturday, May 10, 2008
The Associated Press

TONTITOWN, Ark. – It's a Happy Mother's Day, indeed, for Michelle Duggar – she's pregnant with her 18th child, and says she has no plans to stop any time soon.

BROTHERS AND SISTERS

The new baby, due on New Year's Day, will have seven sisters and 10 brothers, including two sets of twins. The Duggar children, all with first names beginning with "J," range from Jennifer, 9 months, to Josh, 20. They're all home-schooled.

NOTHING NEW

Michelle Duggar, 41, has been pregnant for more than 11 years of her life, according to "fun facts" on the family's Discovery Health Web page (health.discovery.com/ convergence/duggars/ duggarfamily.html). She said she's six weeks along and doing well. She and her husband, Jim Bob Duggar, say they'll keep having children as long as God wills it.

HOME SWEET HOME

The fast-growing family lives in Tontitown in northwest Arkansas in a massive 7,000-square-foot home. Chores – or "jurisdictions" – are assigned to each child.

they need to seek peofessional help!! You can not possibly give the kind of love and AFFECTION that builds a strong family relationship, with that many kids. These people are "selfish", as Portiea, puts it. With over crowding, the food situation, and so many, many other issues, it's unthinkable, that a couple's selfish attitude of "I want I want" overrides the parentage issues. Let's see how they're going to meet medical, diet, social obligations, sport and art programs.

Although, they are from Arkansas...which appears to breed this kind of radical thinking. It must be the air or something. Isn't that radical preacher who demonstrates at gay funerals from Arkansas?? Isn't Bill Clinton from Arkansas? Well, at least we know how he deals with birth control. If you don't know, ask Monica. If Bill Clinton can be trained in the art of birth control, how difficult can it be??

Poorer states tend to have less educated people. They also tend to attract lazy people who are looking for places with lower cost of living and a democrat state where they tend to give away everything. These states are alway behind by about ten years on many things. Too many fingers in the pie also. I get amazed with the poorer states by damn we have sports places, race tracks, beer joints and clubs, but the youth is let pass in poor schools. Then you have college student that can tell you every score for every game played in the last 20 years but don't know you don't get hot water from the water company.(true) And they all think it is their God given right to have credit.

Young couple calls the gov for assitance. They need money because the baby is sleeping in a carboard box that their new 60' plasma TV came in...................confused crazy!

Wow, and double wow! No, not at the fact that they have so many children...it's the fact that some people are so judgemental about it!

I have NINE children of my own...yes fellow friends, NINE. Having a large family isn't about "breeding" as you have so kindly put it. The Duggers are NOT originally from Arkansas to begin with, so their geological jurisdiction has nothing to do with it.

Reading and watching their story, you'll find it's a "religious" experience for them as well...not just publicity. I moved from Utah two years ago and the Mormon influence was heavy. I did NOT have nine children because of that influence. I don't have to explain it. Most people have been very understanding about it, and frankly I didn't need their approval, but the emotional support has been wonderful.

I work, the Duggers work. I do agree after having my own large brood that you cannot give each child what you could on an individual basis. I used to get offended at people that would say that, but after many years, I have learned this is true. I wish I could be more to each of them. I have 5 girls still at home, and now the two older boys have come back. They are amazing and help out so much. As a single mother this means a lot to me.

Please don't be so willing to strike an opinion without having the facts. That family as well as mine, does not seek for the government or anyone else to support their children. I know woman with one or two children who prefer to sit on welfare and never work. I have more respect for the ones who DO work and do what it takes to care financially, emotionally, educationally for their children. Thus far, the Duggers have done so. Kudos!!!

One more thing to add....a child is NEVER a stupid thing to "DO" and have. It's what you do to raise them that could be. I have been very blessed with my children.

Final thought also...."to each his own. Live and let live".

To me, the real issue here is not about whether they can support all these children or not. It is not about their religious beliefs. It is the impact they are making on the world. They have 18 children. Chances are all of those 18 children will have children. There is a population explosion happening on this planet. In North America, the population doubled in the 20th century. In relationship to past centuries, that is a huge increase. The planet cannot support all the people who are currently living on it. Over-population is the reason for global warming and all problems related to it because of the amount of food that needs to be grown and processed, plus energy needs, etc. Over population is the cause of so many people currently suffering and starving. It is the cause of there being virtually millions of children without any parents at all, who live on the street, who end of beggars, who live in filth and poverty, and on and on.

It is ethically unacceptable for two human beings to reproduce more than two more human beings. I don't care what your religion or personal beliefs are--. Signed, Ms. Unpopularity --and I don't friggin' care.

Right...so let me live with my opinions...and get off your superior attitude. If you and the baby factory can have your opinion...then so can I

Oh come on, who made you the ecological ethics police? People who have no kids and fly around on private jets have more of an impact on the planet than people who have kids and take care of them. Who knows, one of these kids may be the one who grows up and finds the cure for cancer, or an affordable alternative to fossil fuel. These people are not "the cause of there being virtually millions of children without any parents at all, who live on the street, who end up beggars, who live in filth and poverty," the parents who had them are.

Excuse me? Never anywhere did I say you couldn't have your own opinion and since I do respect that you do have one, there is no "superior" attitude here. Seems the other way around. A woman is not a "baby factory", but then again, that shows your "opinion" as you are entitled to have it. Men can also be referred to one as well. Woman unfortunately just have the entire responsibility placed on them during and afterwards when the man chooses not to take it. Just MY opinion.

Have a wonderful day.grin

Over-population is the primary cause of such world wide problems as global warming and poverty.

And for being "acceptable" for parents to only have two human beings, (I think they're referred to as "children") I wonder who's standards are being used for that calculation. Just a question.

The baby factory comment was directed toward both...not just her. Again...you're "superior attitude" is rampant

So women don't abandone their children...only men!! well excuse me!!
My brother and sister and I were ALL abandoned by my mother.

This is the attitude that I am referring to!

YOU...have a nice(perfect) day!
