Burmese cyclone may have triggered China earthquake ( Archived) (5)

As everyone knows by now, there was a devastating earthquake in the Sichuan province of China.
Everybody also knows that there was a devastating cyclone in Burma.

What few people realize is that these 2 places are not that far apart geographically speaking. About 1000 miles. A cyclone like the one to hit Burma is a powerful force which IMO could have triggered the earthquake in China esp if the quake was on the verge of happening.

Testing of nuclear weapons have triggered earthquakes in the past and a major cyclone dwarfs the energy of a nuclear weapon. All it would take is some strong seismic waves to reach a fault line that has built up a lot of pressure to allow that fault to slip and you have a potentially major earthquake.

Can you tell me what the difference is between a cyclone and a hurricane or tornado. I know what a tornado is and a hurricane not sure what a cyclone is compared to the two.

Hi Kitty

A tropical cyclone that has matured to a severe intensity is called a hurricane when it occurs in the Atlantic Ocean or adjacent seas, a typhoon when it occurs in the Pacific Ocean or adjacent seas, or simply a cyclone or tropical cyclone when it occurs in the Indian Ocean region.

The name simply depends on where they occur.
