I wanted to start this thread because I feel that expressing your religious convictions, whatever they may be, is entirely beneficial. I have decided to call this thread, Mormonism, since I have always been convinced of the validity of this faith. However, Mormonism is tolerant of other faiths as well, so don't think that I am biased towards any other faith besides that which is shared with respect to Latter-day Saints. I welcome any comments that you may have.
Big Daddy, Thank you for your reply. So far you're the only one who has, but I didn't think this thread would be all that interesting. However, you have mentioned some of the same things that cossed my mind a few years ago. Although I have studied the account of Joseph Smith and Mohammed, I admit that their visions almost co-incide with one another. Coincidence? Perhaps... I'm not an authority, and I never want to pretend to be one. I can only relate what I have learned through my years of study. Joseph Smith was an interesting person. Some have suggested that perhaps he was a false prophet, a charlatan, a lunatic, and that he suffered from Schizo-Affective Disorder (Schizophrenia). Whether Smith actually saw the plates and interpreted them through the gift and power of God remains questionable. And the same goes for Mohammed, or however you spell his name. LoL What I do know is this; that the Book of Mormon is a wonderful book to read, especially if you're depressed. This book never challenges the Bible in what it teaches. Whether God meant for Christians to have this book or not remains questionable. I can't say that the Book of Mormon was divinely inspired because I wasn't there.... I didn't witness the angel Moroni. I never met Joseph Smith. But faith has a lot to do with what we believe in and with how we live our lives. Joseph Smith may have been a prophet. Perhaps he really was sent on a mission from God. Who's to say?
Skinhead, I as well mean no offence to you or anyone else because I do and will respect anyone beliefs that they may have. But, I have lived and worked amongst the Mormons while I live in Utah. I found them to be very biased and contrary to anyone not of their faith. I as well have read their book of Mormon and had trouble with their ways. I had 2 neighbors who were Mormon that had daughters that were excommunicated from their church and rousted from the family home because they were too embarrassed about their daughters becoming pregnant at the age of sixteen. I could go on and on but I won’t. Needless to say, when they come to my home I very politely ask them to leave and never come back.
Latter-day Saints are expected to maintain certain moral and spiritual standards, both for themselves and for their families and friends. When those standards are not met, face the consequences of righteous punishment.
I don't judge people on their religion or anything not the kinda person i am. The only religion i have studies because most my family is baptist, i don't really go to church much. But i believe there is a god, and i have been baptized as well, but others have talked to me about peoples religion well there's anyways and now i guess i am wondering if i am in the right spot. If that's understandable anyways.......
My only problem with the mormon way is the acceptance of Joseph Smith.
When the missionaries came to my house thay said I had to accept Christ between me and god and that I had to accept Joseph Smith between me and Christ.
That places two men between me and the Father.
I just cant't accept that. My only path to God is to lift up my eyes.
Religion is a very touchy subject. People kill over it, turn their backs on loved ones for it, and there are people that live their lives for it. There is one God and so many different ways to worship him. So how do we know which one is the right one?
Mormon's do hove some weird things about them, although, 2 or more wives might be cool, at least till they plot against you, lol. Then again it's hard to keep one, lol.
When those standards are not met, face the consequences of righteous punishment.
Who are "they" to judge righteousness? If my daughter were to become pregnant and any told me to boot her I would give them a boot a protologist couldn't remove. Abandon your child when having made a mistake or sinned and turn your back on a grandchild who would absolutely need some moral upbringing...and this all benefits who? God must be so disappointed in us human beings...
I too have studied the Mormon Bible and was taught on a regular basis on it. I have problems believing in this Joseph Smith fella. But, one has to admit that they are doing something right. After all, they clean you up in health and teach people how to make their own food and store it for hard times. I mean they even make their own oatmeal.I do believe that they will be eating and surviving when none of the others are. They are preparing for hard times and planning to be here to the end. I also know that we are told that there are profits here now. From the Bible. The Mormon religion teaches from their own Bible as well as from the scriptures of the Holy Bible. They coincide, one to the other. The Mormon religion is not the only one that tells us, that we are to keep ourselves unto the rightious, away from sin, and it's sinners. It is also not the only one that teaches that even if it is a family member who is doing wrong, that we should shun them unless, or until they come to the lord admitting their faults and begging forgivness. I do find that there are religions out there that are offenseve. But to me it certainly not the Mormon religion. I personally do not follow organized religion. It is far too political for me.
I just came from living in Utah for the past 25 years. I have a lot to say but I'm getting ready for work. I will check this again tonight. I was a member of the LDS church for many years, so I will respond to this later.
All that I can say about the LDS church is that they help people that are in need, whether they belong to the church or not. I am not a religous person so I wont bag on any religion belief that anyone has.
I believe any religion that has no tolerance of other beliefs, are more in kind to social groups instead of religious. I guess my biggest hurdle is the who, when, and where of the interpeters of all those dialects and languages that make up todays belief or Koran , Bible, kabalah what ever book of rules on how to follow or history thereof.
I owe this way of thinking to a teacher in 8th grade who broke down this word "His story". Those in power write history those who lost write history, whose story and what mixture of both stories is truth and what is fabricated. even back then when writing on leaves of papayrus they had spin doctors.
I was raised a cradle Catholic.....baptised shortly after birth.....received all the sacrements.......eight years of Catholic girls school. I am no longer a 'practicing' Catholic, but I do still have faith in God as the one and only Father. Some call Him Allah......some call Him Buddah......it doesn't matter to me. As long as we have faith, someone or something to believe in.
I do believe that God is all forgiving and He will be the only one to judge us in the end. Isn't that what we all hope for? Some sort of 'heaven' in the end?
