Portiea: different wavelength means?

Different life priorities.

Not wanting to depend on 'secure' employment with a wage at the end of the week for example, but wanting to go at it on your own steam

Not wanting to build nests and raise the offspring, is another.

That sort of thing, different wavelenght.

cool

My family is all I have. I consider my best friends as family. My circle is set. I have a small circle that was established a long time ago.....

Now yes.

In the earlier stages of my life, no support, rather..... restraint.

No lack of love thou....never.

But had to fight my battles and walk my own road before acceptance and support came in.

thumbs up Well I think there has to be something there...if your family doesn't agree with you, can't even understand you....there has to be something there I didn't have because you still liked them and they still liked you...maybe that's it...just liking each other...dunno

I seriusly believe that the bottom line is love.

I never stopped loving my family, even if at a very young age I decided to walk out of home and go for it my own way.

Probably it also has a lot to do with proving yourself.

It is very difficult to break unwritten codes of behaviour that have been established for generations. Especially when not only your direct family believe in them, but the entire country u live in at the time.

We are talking about a period of local history that made our country a third world underdevolped nation.

Thirty odd years later it's a different story thank God. Attitudes have changed, education has taken a strong hold, and more or less, we now live a fully europeanised environment.

And to be fair, I am quite proud to see that family ties still ploay a mjor role within the fibre of the society i live in.

I think that's great....I don't undervalue family...I just know there are some families that no matter what, they are poison and will destroy you giving less than half a chance.....it's called dysfunctional nowadays...whatever it is, does exist...

Portiea: Family and Friends—

It is said that you can’t choose your family, but you can choose your friends.

In your experience, which has been most important and valuable to you in life, your family or your friends?

Or has it been pretty equal?

Friends. I respect my Dad and Sister but have no love for my Mom or Brother.
My friends are few and far between but i respect them

As I've never really had any "close friends", more casual friends, I'd have to say my family is the most important thing to me. My parents, my grandparents, all my relatives and especially my kids...no one is more important than them to me hug

I love my family of origin, but it's because I limit time spent with them that I can say we get along great. If we spent too much time together they could get on my nerves real quick. Especially my dad, he likes to be all in your business, I won't be in a position where he can do that. I will say in time of need, my family has always been there for me. My daughter and her family, I see them every couple days now with the grandbaby. Before that it would be once a week or two, they live just about 10 miles down the road, but I stay out of their business.

My friends are the ones I choose to spend time with, that's what make friends special, you aren't born with them, you get to pick the ones you want. I couldn't have gotten through a lot of rough times without their support. Some things that I could never have talked over with my folks I could share with my family of choice, and be sure I wouldn't be judged or told what to do. That is a rare thing to find anywhere, and next to impossible to find with my family.

My family as far as my mom and daughter, my mom was my best friend all of my life until she died a year and a half ago. Other than that, my friends that aren't family.

Em is also my friend. We talk about almost everything, just like mom and I did. She tells me everything thats going on with her friends and boyfriend. It's great. We laugh a lot together and are great friends.

My best friend and I have been friends for 27 years. We know everything about one another. We can't blackmail because the other has all of our secrets too. laugh

I will also say that most of my family has been pretty absent most of my adult life. I have no contact with my siblings, and since I did that, mine and Em's lives have been much more peaceful. They all like to meddle and cause problems.
