I think it can ruin relationships if a check is not kept on amount of time online. Or if friends and family aren't fellow netheads professor

I've known some couples who have met online. They got together and set their computers up in different rooms in the house. Then they carried on spending as much time online as they did when they were single. They ended up splitting up.

I don't think the internet ruins relationships. Being a single Mum and not being able to get out and about as much as I'd like, the internet has thankfully opened a whole new life for me.

I've met many people from the net, face to face, and they're certainly aren't strangers anymore. They have become part of my life wine

Easier online cos you get a response faster whether it be possi/negitive

Apparently relationships can be created online and offline ones destroyed. Some people have already tried face to face or meeting other people in bars, pubs, etc. Others just prefer the net because they're to shy or lazy for that matter(LOL) If you're already involved with someone though, it could put a strain on a romantic or otherwise involved relationships depending on how caught up you allow it to go. Makes any sense? Some get neglected and others do not.

Can do..... we create a virtual world where we pretend to be some one were not.... The net is not always what it's cracked up to be .....good Question though! :-) It can b a psychological withdrawal from the real world too :-(

I think it depends on the situation. The internet can actually help relationships.

In my case, I have a much better time here laughing with you guys than I do in real life. You can get so sick of listening to people complain all the time that it can actually hurt relationship because you start to avoid people because you just don't want to hear it anymore. It's the same old stuff time after time like a broken record.
Being a friend you can be supportive up to a certain point. After that, you become an enabler instead of a supporter.

Having fun online helps recharge your batteries to deal with people in real life.

I agree Anglo.

I have a great laugh on here with most of the posters.. However for me it doesn't compare to real life.

On the subject of ruining relationships, it can indeed ruin them as I found out recently.. Had been seeing a girl for a few weeks but binned her off as every time we were at her place she would sit on the computer for about an hour talking to and flirting with other blokes.. Although she said it was just a bit of fun it wound me up to the point of finishing it...

But on the flip side, I met a woman online on another site a few weeks back and going to meet her next weekend in Yeovil (where she lives).. So I suppose it's all swings and roundabouts..

I think its very useful when searching for something that’s untenable within your own real environment, being at work all day, having to work weekends, spending time with kids etc. can preclude you from actively seeking a new partner.
Ok so you can try a chat up someone at the local supermarket but in my experience the ones I fancy are always in a relationship lol and I am not a pub/club person,
Having said all that, when in a relationship, the internet should only be used for finding info on cinema times etc not for chatting to others. The art of longevity in a relationship is conversation. WITH EACH OTHER !!!
