I don't believe in them - reason being....ldr's are like unrequited love - you spend more time missing the other person than enjoying being with them and getting to know the real person - for me, I'd have to have the in-person contact. Anyone can paint a pretty picture of themselves online - it's the in person picture that counts. Anyone will tell you that fantasy is so much better than reality. Online relationships are unfulfilling after the initial excitement - ldr's can be expensive if there is a lot of travel - and if it does get to the "serious" stage - then someone has to make a huge sacrafice - a lot of things to consider just up and moving - maybe better for younger people, not for me at my age. Just my opinion - you asked - I respectfully gave.
I think the only way a long distance relationship works, is if you see the person at least at some regular interval--i.e. once every month at least. I've had one fail in the past and I wouldn't try it again. THere are too many fish in the sea by me!
pianolover: Do you believe in long distance relationship? why or why not?
Yes, I believe in them...Yes, I think they can work, but both parties have to be willing to make it work, and be willing to overcome any and all obstacles that could get in the way...JMO
It's possible but unlikely to work out longer than a year, because too many people are cheaters and too many are jealous and when the teacher is away the children will play, unfortunitely
Personally I think you have to have brass balls to do it. And it depends on what Long Distance is really. A few hours away, Different state, Different country.
Different state maybe, A few hours away more than likely, Different country very hard in my opinion.
Like Australia to America very unlikely I would think..

Been there/done that - and not really interested in pursuing one again - just found that overall there was too much that I failed to learn about this person before I got into it. As they say - hindsight is 20/20
I'd rather meet someone local who I can spend time getting to know ......... because the reality is that no matter how much time you spend on the internet, the phone chatting, visits ...... it will come down to real life interaction on a daily basis that will either make or break the relationship.
So unless someone can convince me otherwise - I'd rather spend my time and energy on concentrating on meeting someone local.
