Mine is not in school yet, but I can assure you that I am not going to care about what she thinks she needs and what brand she feels she has to have, when she does enter school... My child will not run me and be spoiled like most kids are now adays. I will provide her with everything she needs and only a few things she wants..

I only have one child who goes to school. He will be going to 5th grade this fall. His dad and I split the costs but most of the time he pays for more than I do. He buys the clothing and shoes for outdoors and indoors for the school. He pays his agenda and that stuff too.

As for myself I get what I can find and the stuff I can't he finds it for me in other places (I mean the school materials etc..) We also have dollar stores here that carry a lot of things like lined paper, duo tangs, crayons, pencils and pens and highlighters and glues and lots of other things. The only materials we buy at big stores are the hilroy note books and things they don't sell in the dollar store.

I would say I pay about 60$ in stuff and he pays about 150$ (his choice!)

I'm a teacher at an inner city, urban high school. I spend a couple thousand every year -- my student's parents disregard any requests for supplies. And they all get a free lunch! I get nada and can only claim $250 on my taxes every year for expenses.... If you're a parent and buy the supplies....BLESS YOU! Believe me, teachers do appreciate it. (by the way....many years, I and other teachers have paid for student's graduation cap and gown, because otherwise they wouldn't be able to walk across the stage with their peers)

school supplies won't cost me much this year.................my son "bless him" is very frugal...........he has tons of paper and tons of pencils left over and he's in junior high now so we don't go through the glue and rulers and tissues and things like that anymore.........so he will only cost me in clothes(another lucky break there..........jeans and t-shirts and a couple pairs of tennis shoes and he's happier than can be applause gotta love this child)

my other child went to live with his dad this year so nothing to buy for him this year

cheering
