Just a thought on Taxes.... (38)
Zeelander: I know all politicians love to raise taxes to a point. GWB Gave many tax credits for marriage, children and the most of the working class. Barak OBama vows to take all of these taxe credits away.
My Question is....
Since Democrats like to raise taxes in general more than Republicans, shouldn't the system be set up that the only people that pay taxes are registered Democrats since they like paying higher taxes and all others are exempt?

I don't know, but I do feel that if we are paying large amounts we should feel and see the benefits of those taxes. So far, we are being sucked dry and then left in a ditch.

The problem is that you have to make up for the damage GW did by giving the tax breaks before you will see any benefits , here is the bit I don’t get , why do the tax your wages and then tax the products that you buy with what’s left of your wages surly they can just tax the hell out of you wages and leave what you spend it on alone so at least you know exactly how much you are paying the gov

It's a shell game. American's pay about 50% when it's all said and done....the taxes are hidden.

I see the biggest problem with taxes is the structure and lack of accountability. This idea of paying into the Federal tax system so that things can be reallocated in a balanced manner is crap... rich areas stay rich, poor areas stay poor and in the meantime while the money is trickling back down to a local level money disappears with no accounting.
I believe that all taxes should be paid on a local level with that tax agency paying the Federal govt. a certain percentage and then keeping the rest of the money on a local level where there is more accountability. A budget on a local level is so much easier to monitor then a federal budget.

Not being a smart a** here Conrad... I´m genuinly curious... How did they pay for police, fire deptartment, health care etc.

I know that not all people are as physically healthy as I am, but there are other things that they can do. If people want to receive my tax dollars, let them work 20 hours a week picking up garbage on the highways. 20 hours a week won't kill them and it will give them time to look for a job and or get an education.

Being a Congressman should also be a part time job at the federal level.... wait..... it is..... States should control their own destiny without interference from other states. If there is a disaster in a state it is the responsibility of that state to render aid and not the federal government. This is why we pay insurance.

Here in Ohio they do. They also make convicts work up in the mountains in Southern California helping the county clear out dead trees etc.

Oh, I know.... When I was in the Air Force we had White collar criminals on our base mowing lawns on riding mowers.... we as enlisted military had to cut tumbleweeds by hand.... I was a Jet Engine Mechanic, who is treated better?
If working is degrading, then no one should have to work and the government should just print cash and divide it equally. Work is work... a job is a job..... Cleaning the highways has to be done by someone.

Seems there was always quite a bit money coming in Offshore Banking and other Corporations registered there for Taxpurposes.Then of course there was National Insurance,into which everyone working had to pay into.
Some of those monies were used in part for Health-care,and "Old Age Pensions".
