ttom500: Last year the city of Washington DC enacted a hand gun ban. It was challenged to the Supreme Court. Found to be unconstitutional. It reinforced the gun clause of the Constitution.......and the pro gunners around the country began to celebrate a victory.

I am not sure of the crime figures......but crime figure need to looked carefully. Most major cities run thier own databases accumulating them. The FBI also does a annual nation wide crime study.....those are the best in the country to quote in my opinion.

Obama was pro gun ban for a time, from what I have heard. Not sure where he is now...he has flipped on so many positions it is hard to know where he is.

thanks tom you said that better than i could have i have a hard time explaining things to people because i am not very educated and cant speak like an educated person but the intelligence is always there. lol

WhatUwish4: I agree. But they all need to be held to the same standard and presented objectively instead of one darling over another. For example, they are the gatekeepers and they decided what quotes to include, etc. following a major event or speech. When they aired their coverage of the conventions, they picked all favorable quotes Obama, referencing only his "Historic speech." With Sarah Palin, all you heard was about the Mayor of a small town. It's subliminal, and it sucks.

Oh I see that happening to everyone don't you Wish? Obama/Biden have their records picked apart, slanderous e-mails circulating, stories made out of whole cloth and not at all true sometimes.

What happens then, we want to either gobble them up or vet the stories. Are we to just believe anything and everything? Some do, some don't depends on who they are about, who you're voting for and who you are.

Now I try to be fair and research/cross reference all the stories about all the candidates. But I've seen some real satisfaction from both of the party members here and elsewhere when the tales are about the oppositions candidate.

So what make Palin's experience suddenly so shocking and so unfair when the men are fair game? I thought she was strong, isn't she tough enough to run with the big boys for VP? If not we need to know that too.

I for one am not interested in a slanderous story or false tale but when I post what my questions are about her most of you guys don't address them and when the media does the Rep. party is crying foul play. Seems like a double standard to me.

anyone running that does not bow down to the powers that be will be made to look like they are not strong enough by the media. the council of foreign relations is a american branch which originated in england and this group beleives that all national bpundaries should be obliterated and a one world rule established and also these are the very same people who want to disarm americans. i cannot stomach either party but have to side with the republicans no matter how much they rob steal kill torture they will not disarm their own people i hope the democrats will definitley try.

Ok, I just noticed an article in Yahoo news about Palin's records vs her statements since becoming VP pick.

I wont include anything that might be a slant but these are some of the very questions I've been posting about.

Can anyone give me links or hard facts to show another side of the story here, her side?

_fact_check_1

WASHINGTON - A new ad from John McCain's presidential campaign contends his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, "stopped the Bridge to Nowhere." In fact, Palin was for the infamous bridge before she was against it

THE SPIN: Called "Original Mavericks," the ad asserts the Republican senator has fought pork-barrel spending, the drug industry and fellow Republicans, reforming Washington in the process, and credits Palin with similarly changing Alaska by taking on the oil industry, challenging her own party and ditching the bridge project that became a national symbol of wasteful spending...

THE FACTS: Palin did abandon plans to build the nearly $400 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport. But she made her decision after the project had become an embarrassment to the state, after federal dollars for the project were pulled back and diverted to other uses in Alaska, and after she had appeared to support the bridge during her campaign for governor.

McCain and Palin together have told a broader story about the bridge that is misleading. She is portrayed as a crusader for the thrifty use of tax dollars who turned down an offer from Washington to build an expensive bridge of little value to the state.

"I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere," she said in her convention speech last week.

That's not what she told Alaskans when she announced a year ago that she was ordering state transportation officials to ditch the project. Her explanation then was that it would be fruitless to try to persuade Congress to come up with the money.

"It's clear that Congress has little interest in spending any more money on a bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina Island," Palin said then.

Palin indicated during her 2006 campaign for governor that she supported the bridge, but was wishy-washy about it. She told local officials that money appropriated for the bridge "should remain available for a link, an access process as we continue to evaluate the scope and just how best to just get this done."

She vowed to defend Southeast Alaska "when proposals are on the table like the bridge and not allow the spinmeisters to turn this project or any other into something that's so negative" — something that McCain was busy doing at the time, as a fierce critic of the bridge.

Even so, she called the bridge design "grandiose" during her campaign and said something more modest might be appropriate.

Palin's reputation for standing up to entrenched interests in Alaska is genuine. Her self-description as a leader who "championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress" is harder to square with the facts.

The governor has cut back on pork-barrel project requests, but in her two years in office, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. And as mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million.

I have heard comment on Palin....that range from the trvial....

she wears the wrong color of lipstick and wrong clothes for the job.

To pure political attacks without fact and base on her family and her ability to govern with five children.

Obama just said.......Palin on the 'bridge to no where'....first supported it and then when she got to be Govenor....flipped when others in the state opposed it....to be against it. That the American people want a
canidate of that takes 'stands on a position and stays with them'.

Gesh Sky.....wish me to begin a number of flips that Obama have made that are much greater issues than a bridge?

1) Iraq.........he went from a withdrawl in 16 months to keeping 65,000 there indefinitely
2) Off shore oil.....from none.....to limited drilling
3) Talking to foreign leaders.....from talk anytime, and anyplace to talk with the right conditions
4) Full support to Isreal at APIC to support if the conditions are right the day after.

Yes, Obama, who is Mr. Solid on his far left positions and then does the biggest middle of the road right turn in American political history. Yet he can an attack on Palin? Because she makes single change in position and gets it right after she gets into office?

This is getting to be like shooting fish in a barrel for the REP.

Truthfully, I think Obama and Biden have been given a huge pass in terms of the questioning - and I think the media deliberately shaped their stories so they came out looking favorable. I ALSO think that because of their bias, the had a great deal to do with making this war so unpopular - again for the benefit of their bias.

Not to say that it's all one-sided, but to me it is clearly VERY one-sided.

You do not do what Tom and so many others do Wish, twist what I'm honestly asking about and questioning. It has nothing to do with her lipstick for Heaven's sake, this isn't a beauty pagent it's the VP's office.

I get talking points, attacks on the opposition or on me for questioning lipstick and nothing much else.

I trust you and know you to be fair also, you have never done this.

Well, as you and I and probably all of us have discussed at one time or another, we all have our moments...and we're not always proud of them. Things are happening quickly and emotions are high...

But never forget how much respect we all have for each other - especially you as you have maintained your position with dignity and often alone. The friendship, I think, remains intact.

Got to run!
