I've been hearing rumors that all the debates thus far have been preprogrammed, as to say all participants are aware of what questions are being asked the only thing they do not know is what the other partys exact answer will be.

I would be so curious as to how these chosen ones would fare in a open forum debate without their staff of writers, spin doctors and PR consultants. to assist then in their responses.

Do you think open forum debates are /ridicluous/ necessary/right for presidential debates?

ANY type of debate is alright. At least we'll hear about issues instead of all the rumor garbage!

I seriously doubt they get the questions ahead of time. They'll be fun to watch but I think the race is over. We'll pick a folksy person ahead of our kids future every time.

I take it that you are using the royal "we" as in too many Americans are influenced by personality and talking points? That is often sadly true.

Sad thing that in the debates the candidates answer the questions
so vaguely that the answer cannot be interpreted in any real sense.

That can be true too but it still usually beats the heck out of the much of the junk fed us on the campaign trail.

It bugs me when the issues aren't so much about what our country is facing and the problems needing solutions and becomes about who is prettier and has the most personality.

I'd like to hear exactly how they intend to address reform, clean up our governmental processes, reduce wasteful spending, create jobs for Americans, and yes how they intend to deal with the wars and the rumors of war.

You know, real answers not just "Because I say I can".

What pisses me off and it's happening in Europe now too, is the obligatory staged standing ovation as if they had said anything of any consequence or original. They are not exactly George Wasington, Abe Lincon or Winston Churchill. In fact they don't even write the speeches!very mad

Well the Repubs trickle down theory of job creation turned out to be
just that: a trickle. laugh The mortage problem is the direct
result of nobody able to hold a job long enough to pay off a loan.
I recommend people in this day of age to save first until a house
can be purchased in whole and forget about loans. drinking

The mortgage problem is a direct result of Congress failing to initiate reforms over the past 30 years... and the majority of recent initiatives were blocked by the Democrats. And the percent of people NOT in trouble with their mortgages is around NINETY ONE.... We are talking a very small segment of the population in trouble.... but a very large industry that was allowed to run amok....

Sadly that small percentage and the industry itself has affected a larger portion of the population, and even us here in Canada.
I had a hell of a time getting a mortgage on my place in BC because of it. All of the lenders are scared now and it only makes it more difficult for others. I'm on my fifth mortgage and never once defaulted, yet I have to suffer for the stupidity of others.

All these debates and rallies are nothing more than popularity contests and show boating. It's even worse when some get extra media coverage and some get none at all. Totally bised way of doing things and unfair to some of the candidates as well as the general public.thumbs down

It's not because of those people, it's because the organizations are in the tank from extreme mismanagement, and very poor investment decisions... But after this fiasco, we WILL have problems.

The foreclosure rate is now at 7000 a day and the mantra of deregulation is a big reason. And we know who the deregulation party is. McCain is still pushing more of it with the backing of his economic guru, Phil "nation of whiners" Gramm and at the same time swearing to "drain the swamp in Washington". He should arrange to be out of town whenever the draining begins.

Nah, it's not McCain's fault, it's greed, pure and simple. Somebody got stinking rich off of all of this, and many lost....some everything.

Hi WUW4

Hi Harry!

Yes, it was greed... and very poor management. If they had not drained the well dry by listening to bad advice and poor purchase decisions, and God knows knows what else (probably skimming profits) , a NINE PERCENT foreclose slump would have been just that. A slump. Instead.....welll, here we are.

And this is NOT a partisan thing... the government should have instituted controls several administrations ago so all parties are guilty.

(But of course McCain is the most guilty of all because he is evil incarnate!)

Why doesn't McCain just come out and be honest and say
the rich gets richer and the poor poorer when he becomes pres.
Tax cut for the rich and more taxes for the poor. drinking
