How about the old guy

Paulie's Point

McCain's character and love for America shine

After watching Sarah Palin capture the hearts of Americans and energized the Republican base, John McCain was confident he made the right choice for a running mate. While the nation was still a buzz over "Saracuda", McCain still had to deliver his speech knowing full well that a less than adequate performance could kill the momentum change favoring the GOP.

If I had to use one word to describe McCain's speech that word would be "pride." Pride in America, pride in the military, pride in his fellow captives in Vietnam, pride in his family and pride in who he is. What he didn't show pride in was what had become of the Republican Party.

When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told the Democratic convention that she was proud of the accomplishments made by the Democratic controlled congress, I couldn't help but yell back at the television, "what accomplishments?" There is no way that Pelosi is happy with congress and with a 9% approval rating either is America. However she doesn't have the integrity to admit failures, while John McCain could care less who he alienates in his own Party as he tells them they have failed the people who put them in office.

That level of honesty displayed by McCain is exactly what this country needs. Put policy aside for the moment and ask yourself when the last time you believed the President of the United States was being completely truthful? I thought so.

I also believe Bush has trouble admitting when he is wrong or has made errors in judgement.

Most people don't believe President Bush and for certain President Bill Clinton were always honest with the American people. Even those who disagree with McCain on policy believe he is a man of his word.

McCain addressed the need to control spending and to stop the growth of government. While this talk is the GOP standard since before Ronald Reagan, he didn't hide from the fact that his own Party has failed to live up to these fundamental principles. Paulies Point readers have heard me complain about the limited government failures of the Republican Party for years, it was nice to hear a prominent Republican confess to their mistakes.

After McCain's speech, America got a clear view inside the man's soul. To this day nobody knows what Barack Obama is about, except for punishing success and turning the United States into a European style Socialist nation. McCain made his speech a personal conversation with the country he loves and the people listened.

Why a woman would vote Republican. They're not about keeping jobs here to make your lives better, they're not for child care, they're not for health care, they're not for raising the minumum wage, they're not for social security, they're not for balancing the budget, they're not for keeping your kids out of wars. They're not for anything family-friendly.

thumbs down

Thank you...I fully agree, and it's good to see other women who feel the same way! I love McCain and Palin and feel that they're just the breath of fresh air that this country needs!

Just to be fair and balanced, I signed up for Democratsdotcom:

Tell The Media to Call Sarah Palin a Serial Liar

It is now thoroughly documented that Sarah Palin supported the $398 million "Bridge to Nowhere" when she ran for Governor in 2006, even though Congress cancelled the earmark in 2005.

She only opposed it in September 2007 after her final efforts to get $329 million more from Congress failed. Yet she kept the partial funding from Congress!

So when Palin repeatedly says "I told Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks' on that bridge to nowhere," she is repeatedly lying.

It is long past time for reporters to call Sarah Palin exactly what she is - a serial liar.

Now...how pathetic can we get???? The downside, people who are dumb enough to sign probably aren't smart enough to read.

thumbs down Sorry...McCain and Palin would be a step backwards...their solutions only provide a band aid for the problems that won't go away with their stupid policies. We need visionaries...not some crap from a recycling center, and that goes for Democrats as well....

Don't quote me either cause I am not getting into this discussion...

I don't care who you vote for, your choice does not make you a bad or good person. There is a reason why I usually don't discuss politics in this forum....

She can't beat Hilary Clinton, and Bill for that matter, as a liar. You want to talk about serial liars? Look at the big guns in the Democratic Party...they've racked up more lies than all other candidates in history put together. Palin may have told one, which makes her normal...that's not bad in comparison.

Ah, so Palin is not really that bad, after all, right? Barack Osama isn't perfect either...but McCain and Palin are the best candidates we've ever had since I reached voting age. I only voted for Bush as the best of two evils, but this time I feel we really have a strong team for the leadership of this country...and they happen to be Republicans. (Yes, so am I...and proud of it.)

tipaly81: They can try to take away guns and our civil liberties, but the day that happens is the day the rest of America wakes up and the Govt. has to eat their words. We out number them. We are the reason they have any "power" at all. That can be changed.

I just hope that the rest of America doesn't wake up too late. And yes, we outnumber them, but only because of the Second Amendment do we have the ability to change the power in this country.

Good luck. She already has a hunk of a husband. Though it's not a good reason to vote, if it's why you vote for them, I'll take it! Then you can spend the next 4 years at least drooling...and hopefully 4 more after that.

How true...unfortunately, many have become "we the sheeple of the United States of America"...and accept the media's lies as truth. It could be too late for most before the threat was scented on the air. I smell it in Obama's choice of Biden for VP.
