Hey BEB... glad you caught it!!! I´ve had a couple removed and had to get additional tissue removed as well, fortunatly mine was a much smaller area then you had to have... still better a scar then cancer!! Glad you´re well sweetie! Good post, hopefully it will encourage others to get checked!
Hey darlin...glad they caught it on time and you're ok...My dad had that too and now he has to wear prescription sunscreen and make sure he is covered fairly well when he's in the sun....
Over here every summer we have major campaigns to inform people about it, including large billboards which tell people to have regular checkups so if there is the slightest hint of it it can be removed immediately.
In effect, if at the early stages, it is a minor intervention and really innoxious to remove. If left unattended however, it could develop into a major problem.
It is a form of skin cancer that is brought on by the UV in the sun's rays.
In cases like this, prevention is far better then cure.....
Hope all goes well for u Blue........
did anyone ever tell you that your name Blue Eyed Blond actuall spells BED ?
hi kurzita...I always knew the sun could cause damage, but i never thought it serious enough and that it wouldnt happen to me... lessons learned..but its good im ok.
and now, didnt really think about "bed" being the short for blue eyed blonde...haha.. funny eh?!
Lillym: Very glad to hear you got through this...here in malta we are made very much aware of Melanoma ... every year the government organises a day of free screening and checkups..
me too lilly, it was scary..but mainly cuz i hate being put under. thanks for your well wishes...
hugs to you too Tina..i hit the button before i hugged you..
Indyfella: Glad you got it taken care of... I'm not a sun-bunny these days as I've got fair skin. Usually put on sunblock if I'm going to be out for over 30 min. in the sun.
I used to like being a "sun-bunny" but now i will have to go for the self-tanning...i started it last year... not bad if you dont the orange ones...

So great to hear they got all the cancer!!!
If you have moles...anywhere on your body, please make an appointment with a dermatologist to get them all checked. Moles can be anywhere on your body. My dermatologist said she has seen alot of skin cancers recently on feet.
Also, skin cancer affects all races and skin types. You don't have to be fair skinned to get melanoma.
If your moles have turned a dark color, or if the mole edges become odd-shaped you should get them checked. And it isn't just moles that get cancer. It can occur anywhere on your skin.
Thanks for posting your message Trudy and I am so glad it was caught in time!!!

blue_eyed_blonde: I really wasn't gonna post about this, but I decided maybe it could be a benefit to someone out there.
About a month ago, I finally went to my doctor about a funny looking mole I had on my thigh. He removed it and sent it to a pathologist who confirmed it was malignant melanoma...grrrr!
Last Wed., I had surgery to take out extra tissue to make sure they got all the cancer out. I got the news Friday that there was no cancer cells in the tissue they removed..so I'm blessed. They took out a section 2 inches by 7.5 inches, and went 2 inches deep. It hurts and I'm not always in the best of moods, but again am thankful that they got it all.
Not sure why I got it...if it was from all the years of tanning and fake baking or if it was just a fluke. For whatever reason, I got it and it was a very scary situation.
Just in case any of you think sometime just isn't right about yourself or if you think a harmless "mole" isn't a big deal...learn from me, I waited a year before I went to the doctor...be smarter then me and get things checked out sooner...
My best to you all...
and to those of you who knew about my situation, thanks so much for all the prayers and positive thoughts that you sent my way...I'm very blessed..
I'm very glad they caught it and hope that you will continue to be ok. I'm so glad you posted this. If you look at my pics I'm dead white and I've lived in a warm climate my entire life, in fact, in a beach city my whole life. Most of the people around here are the same. We don't tan and we use sunblock religiously. I just cringe when I see people baking or using chemicals on their skin. Some of the fair skinned, light eyed people I grew up with developed skin cancer (in childhood and high school we spent our lives at the beach and learned the hard way) and when I warn people they just laugh. Maybe some people will read this and see how serious it is.
Glad you did not wait any longer before you went and had it checked. A lot of us fear going to the doctor in case it is cancer, but now from you we see how not waiting too long turns out the best.
