Remember those times?...lazy hazy days of summer...lounging in the pool, eating great food under a canopy on the beach??...or not getting out of bed until midday...

..or maybe it was skiing on the winter slopes of Samnaun in powder snow, with schnapps to follow

What was or is your idea of the best Sunday of your life..?

Going to my grannie's farm as a child and wandering through nearly 500 acres of fields, and down along old cobbled lanes that were no longer used. Taking the younger kids for long walks from there to the beaches, and back to big bowls of jelly, melting in hot custard, and farmhouse kitchen concerts put on by the kids, singing or dancing or reciting poems learned at school, with prizes of cake or sweeties. When it was time to go home grannie made us sandwiches like doorstops, nearly an inch think plastered in thick farm butter and a handful of suger on top, that we ate in the car on the way home, because we always cried on leaving and wanted to stay there forever.

How lovely!!...I think anyone who the good fortune to grow up on or near a farm lived an enchanted life...I grew up in Cape Town...in a new subrub surrounded by pine forests...we would play outside until dark...you could never let kids do that today, anywhere.....except Malta maybe....:-)

We would go there every second or third Sunday until I was in my late teens.

I had many firsts there. First cuddle from a boy. First kiss. First awakening to nature and how powerful it is. First time lying naked in the sun in long grass listening to birdsong, embarrassed at the thought of being caught, but fulfillng a primal need......

My grandmother's love. The only selfless true love I have ever known.

When I movd here 17 years ago, I tried to let my kids have similar experiences, in that I always lived on farms, for the first 10 years or so until they grew up. I took them on nature rambles through the countryside. We collected plants and berries and had fresh milk from the farm. They chased chickens and collected eggs and climbed trees, played in their imaginations and loved it. They talk about it still.......

What is making it difficult for you? Is it the place or the people or just a longing to be someplace else? hug

My perfect SUNday was a time when I was at peace.

Time stood still and my brain stopped racing........

I was a teenager, and this particular day I was hit by one of those moments when you just really appreciate being alive.

You can smell the light, you hear the air vibrate gently with the heat, you can feel everything that surrounds you and you are as nothing - just 'there'.

The sun shines in a metallic blue shy above you. All is quiet.

That donkey is almost as inanimate as the stone wall in whose shade it is tethered; inanimate save for the swishing of its tail.

You see the sea below you in a tepid heat haze. It's there and yet it isn't there - it's just water, yet it is its own secret universe you sense pulsating away beneath those gently slushing waves.

You know that there are fish out there - somewhere, but they have escaped far from the land on which you stand............ they have fled to cooler, deeper waters.

I am at peace, calm, and just part of life itself.

Starting over is really hard. I was thinking recently for leaving her eto live in warmer climes, even though it would be best ot wait another year, but then I thought of all the things I'd find unfamiliar and maybe uncomfortable for a while and decided to wait. I have started over in many new places over the years and it is the pits until you start to fit in properly. hug
