I'm burning out too. But afraid to switch because of the economy...My advice...If you have vacation time...use some of it, and just sit at home away from work and do stuff you want to do if you cant afford an actual vacation...

I took a "staycation" about two weeks ago, and it's helped me stay sane anyway...not happy, but, at least...still sane...roll eyes wink grin

Unfortunately, I cant do that ...its the nature of the work that I do. I have to be available at the end of the phone for particular reasons 24/7..its just the way it is.
I took a year out, over two years ago and considered leaving then but ended up getting sucked back in again with the job that I do. A very close friend of mine told me the other night that my main problem is that I am simply a workaholic.
To be honest I was taken back by that cos I would never see myslef as that focused, yet when he asked me when was the last time I took a day off, I realised it was when I took that year off!

I can be overly focused at work myself. My problem is that I put so much into my job and then am hurt when others don't apply themselves in the same manor.

My family notices the signs, when I become really irritable, snappy, stressed 24/7 and rant for hours, then I need a change. Maybe you should consider a job change. Something a little less stressful and that offers days off. But don't make a move until you have another job lined up. (believe that had been said earlierthumbs up )

Take care,

The average time until burnout in phone customer service is 9 months, and that's with just an 8 hour FT shift. If you're on call 24/7 this period must undergo a doppler shift of compression toward the near end of the calender....

I was so busy running at one time when my kids were small between work..late night meetings...school activities etc...that I got to the point where I didn't know how to relax anymore and I actually felt guilty when I wasn't doing something...what I had to do was...decide what was important to me...and weed out all the things that weren't as important to simplify my life a lot...that left me the energy and time to focus on exactly what I needed to focus on...instead of running in 10 different directions all the time...thumbs up

yep. my last one was a beauty. I was working in a kitchen with no other chefs, no porter and no control over the ordering. I was working straight 12hr shifts, cooking around 200-250 meals a day and the manager was an idiot. anyway I went in one morning in a bad mood and discovered that someone had hit the dead switch and cut off all power in the kitchen and all the meat, dairy, fish and frozen stuff had gone off. at first I laughed and then I saw a huge stack of dishes that the owner had used the night before and left in the sink. that was when I picked up a frying pan and put it through a window, booted the toilet door apart, grabbed my jacket, then gave the owner a few choice words. it was pretty good really. I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind being skint
