In response to: Who's your favorite movie antagonist/villain?

Mine are as follows Hans Guber (Die Hard), Predator(s) (Predator 1 + 2), the Killer Rabbit (Monty Python and the Holy Grail), and Le Chiffre (Casino Royale.)

I like a villain who seems menacing and seems like a challenge to overcome. I don't like the ones that seem to let the protagonist get an advantage over them. You know? Doesn't seem realistic to me.

Pepe` la Pew...
remember the male skunk who spoke french, a cartoon?laugh

Ok...This is off the subject a bit, but you notice almost all the villains mentioned are over-the top fictional characters? Nobody mentions abusive husbands(or wives), bad parents, bosses, or any every-day kinds of people.(OK...except for Sara Pailin)

Sure, Dracula is scary, but he's just a movie. Cartoon villains are the same way. Totally fictional. It's like a roller-coaster. It's "scary", but safe.

What we really fear is the guy(or gal) right next to us. On the bus, at work, or school. We create(or embrace) straw men that we can burn down. We see the bad guy "get it" in the end, and it gives us confidence that evil is punished, and there is order in the world.

Getting back to the question, I prefer(or hate, as the case may be) monsters you CAN'T see, or understand, like ghosts, aliens, or unseen and illogical foes.

A line in a TV show sums it up.

Q: "What does he WANT!"
A: "He doesn't want anything. He's insane."

Creepy!

true enough, Real villains are boring, they have no good quips and no big plans, like ruling the world.

"You mean Captain Underpants. He's not a bad guy though."
How about his enemies, the Wicked Wedgie Woman and Professor Poopypants?

Best villains? How about the Borg Queen from "Star Trek:first Contact"?

A couple of my favorites are the white haired guy from Tank Girl and the Operative from Serenity, he shows how someone obeying the law and doing 'good' can be evil.
