Do you think that manufacturers of products should be held responsible and accountable for the results of their product...

In particular - but not limited to - the tobacco industry, liquor stills, gun manufacturers, weaponries and others of that nature...

Hmm.... dunno about guns because they're illegal here, but as concerns cigarettes and alcohol, the only thing that will ever be done is being done now, and all that is is a warning on the product, alcohol tins tell you to drink responsibly and have a consumer helpline, and tobacco have various slogans as to the damage smoking can do. NOTHING more will ever be done as long as tobacco and alcohol are taxable products, it would not be in the government's interest to do anything more!!!

professor SAD FACT!!!!

I'd love to see Pharmaceutical companies... I still have suspicions that many of todays diseases are accidents or by products of these corporations R&D departments.

No. Many people use each of these products safely each and every minute of every day. I think that the individuals who misuse them should be held responsible for their actions.

Tobacco is the only product you mentioned that doesn't fit in this statement, since smoking and chewing it always cause health problems with the user...so, there is no "safe" use of it. However, the individual chooses to smoke, and these days that's with the awareness of the health consequences, so I still don't see where the manufacturers should be held responsible.

I agree...
I can't beleive guns are illegal there, but they will try to take ours away someday also, Hopefully we all fight it, because that is the last thing the government has to do to have total control over us..( when they take away our "RIGHT" to bare arms and defend ourselves... But we have the DEms, coming in, so they will try....cheers

Just playing devil's advocate here for a minute....

Tobacco companies are producing something that they KNOW is harmful to the user...and as you said there is no "safe" use of it....

Isn't that akin to drug dealers "supplying" harmful narcotics to junkies?

Once again...playing devils advocate here....

With the exception of soldiers who are in fact "baring arms to defend"...is that what people are doing with their "right" to own guns?
