Hi guys and gals.
I am using a computer that is in our community hall.
Mine was in repair. I got it back yesterday but apart from putting in a few new parts they scewed things up.
I can not open CS, and everything is soooo slow that I am afraid I will go into reverse lol
Don't know what is wrong CS has tried to help and I offered them to take over my computer.
Anyone wanting to do this or can help?
Ask Drui for my email okay? Oslorente has it also and Noreen too.
Miss you guys, but at least I got to read my mail today and I can come back and use this computer.
Nothing if ever all lost right?

Hi, (I'm a computer engineer ret'd!!)

Sounds as though:

either your internet connection is very bad, or

you have some virus(es) or malware on your computer.

Do you have anti-virus software protecting your PC?
Is your OS Windows?
You could try googling for Hijack This, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster, and running them on your computer.
This is time-consuming and you have to follow the instructions on the different websites exactly.
If you have no antivirus software running, you should rectify this asap and make sure you have the Windows updates installed. You can also google for trendmicro housecall, which will scan your computer from the internet (can take hours).

G'luck

Run first of all the "Hijack This" logger, as it will create a log of all important going on in your PC.

When you have done that, find someone that can read it laugh and have them suggest your way forward wave

Yeah good advice. wave

is also good if you don't have any anti-virus software installed. It's free but if you have a slow internet connection or your PC is infested with viruses and/or spyware/malware, it can take hours to complete. You can leave it running all night though.

+++ snip +++

I'm wondering what that could be.

Hardware failures are really rare. Possibly the most common, along with ventilation fans and the power supply unit that steps the voltage down to the low voltages your PC uses, is the hard drive itself, but then your entire operating system would be gone.
So I'm guessing they maybe added more memory and there are sometimes compatibility issues with different brands/types being used together and this would certainly cause symptoms such as you describe. So you could take Gussi's advice and get them to take another look at it.

This file does not have an program association. with it to perform this action.
Create an association in the folder options control panel.

What do I seek in the control panel as the above tells me to do?

I wonder if a new board was put in. When I asked for the disk they told me the one you have when you bought the computer will do as the new board is the same make.

They made a back up copy and the crazy thing is that my Documents are 100% right but my email addresses not.
I got them back from three years ago but lost recent ones.

shot3743: You say Windows in not working. Are you sure about that? Remember, Windows is your operating system that powers up when you switch on the computer. If you get your Desktop screen and the Start button, then Windows is in fact working. If you can click the Start button then Programs, then scroll to Microsoft OfficeXP, then you have Office XP installed (but possibly not PowerPoint).
Can you for instance go on the Internet or not?
What is the operating system? WindowsXP or not?
You can't "download" PowerPoint. It's a part of OfficeXP, as is Word, Excel, Access, Outlook. But these parts of OfficeXP are not necessarily installed unless you check certain checkboxes during installation of Office XP from the CDs. So you could try re-installing Office XP (from the CDs).
But you I think need someone to help you with this. Please don't get fixated on the error messages. They are often not really indicative of what your problem is.

I'll agree to disagree shot...but you can download them very easy...Although between us openoffice.org is a better system.

Anything Billy Boys Gates has made part of Windows OS is available either in the same form(windows) or as close to as makes no difference...

I'm not arguing....

As a PS....

All of the windows systems including Vista can be easily downloaded from the net with out going to Billy Boy..including the correct codes to put in...At the minute I have on this Windows XP sp2...wouldn't touch Vista..rather wait and see what Windows 7 has to offer and thats coming out in the very near future..

Yeah but no but yeah but no but......

My point is the info she's given is sketchy and also doesn't make much sense. No Windows yet error messages ?
If she has a Powerpoint Presentation ending as far as I remember .ppt the association with PowerPoint will be automatic. This tells me PP isn't on her computer any more, though the blahblah#1.ppt blahblah#2.ppt files etc. are. That's why she needs to provide more info and/or get help locally.
