It's not pleasant having to launder a handerchief sometimes - especially in the cold season. Or possibly because men get so many given as Christmas presents when people can't think what to give them?

Definetely tissue. Hanky is most unhygenic after first use. Well this is 2009 so now which of the two, a tissue or hanky, is the more environmentally friendly?
