Hi Folks,
I am new to the internet. About 2 weeks new. But I've been logged on somewhere everyday. I tell you, I'm no longer a TVaholic. Now I'm an internet junkie. By the way, what is "EMOTICON"?
In spite of the fact that I am an ultra conservative Republican, and generally opposed to regulation by our government, I think the internet needs regulating. I've observed things on the internet that would never be tolerated on Radio, Television, or in the Printed Media. I won't go into what. I'm saving that for the appropriate people at the right time.
This website is exceptional, and I cannot find any flaws with it. But, I'm curious. Have any of you seen any behavior on the internet that would be illegal if it were done in some other form of media?
Thank you for your time.
I just found what an emoticon is.applause applause applause

No, I have seen no illegal behavior. There are scams in the media as well as here.

We are a fairly savy, intelligent, group of people here on
CS. We will probably pick up on whatever you are 'saving' to
tell us, we'll see...

While we try very hard to say and do the right things, there
is a bit of a difference in dealing with online groups of
people than those face to face. It seems less intimidating
for people to say things to another 'online' that ordinarily
would not be said face to face. There is an easy way out
for those who wish to say anything they want regardless of
whether feelings get hurt or not. People just leave. A
computer can be turned off with no fear of recrimination
or guilt if the person in question is so inclined to do that.
For the most part I prefer to remember that we are dealing
with real people and it does matter. Sometimes, though, I
may 'lose it'. It happens.

Have to remember, hard to regulate something that is world wide. TV is a localized media. Internet is in a non-existant jurisdiction.

Tom512:
What I'm steamed about are some online dating services (CS excluded) that advertise themselves as "free," then when you go into them, and go through the registration and profiling, they then inform you, to go any further, you must subscribe, donate, or pick a payment plan. Many of these call themselves "Christian."
What they're doing is lying, cheating, deceiving and defrauding people. If this would in the business world, some people, if they got caught, would be taken to court. Remember the Enron scandal? Remember the Savings&Loan debacle back in the 80s and early 90s (my timing might be off). They misrepresented themselves and cheated people out their money. What's the difference between that and what I just explained. And, even now, I'm sure, if you follow the news, you've heard about this Madoff guy.
When you lie, cheat and deceive people to get their money, that's called fraud. And that those that do it should be punished.
Lonely people can be very vulnerable, and they'll do anything they can so that they don't have to be lonely anymore, including pay a supposed free dating site. The people that run these sites are exploiting these vulnerable people for financial gain, and I think it needs to stop.

I agree that this is irritating on some dating sites, and constitutes fraud, but I don't know if anything can be done about it because it is on the internet. Most of us just move on and go elsewhere...and if we're lucky, we find CS. Welcome aboard. wave I would suggest getting a pic of you up as soon as you can and losing the one of Raymond Burr, btw. I don't care how close your resemblance to him is, this also smacks of fraud. wine

Tom,

I must remark your resemblance to Raymond Burr.

I wish to remain or your side, but will not accept anything from the "Ironside".
