I have been thinking about this a lot lately and would appreciate your views on this.............
I understand the concept of Karma and am not sure I believe.
I also know that some people believe it has its roots in Religion, and I hope this doesn't turn into a Religion bashing Thread, as I do believe each to their own beliefs........
But some things about peoples attitudes to it confuse me at times.........
Do people think that any perceived badness in previous lives effect your current life ?
Why do people who don't believe in Religion have blind faith in Karma...........because I do believe one has to have Faith as I have not seen evidence to support it.......Maybe I'm wrong.......
'What goes around comes around'........Does it in one life ?
Are the cliches related to Karma just something we say to people to make them feel better ?

I have to think twice about karma when I see some total barstewards living the life of Riley.....
I do think we live and learn though and have a hunch that this may continue over several life spans - but Its just a hunch as none of us truly know what happens after death.
I just see the whole issue as a Buddhist version of Pascales Wager and believe that those people who actually take time to consider the effects of their behaviours on others are halfway there anyway.....

Good Morning
Thats my point Trish.............and it makes so much more sense that it is spread over several lifetimes as I see so much greed and hatred in society.......
Also when I see bad things happening to good people.......all the time........
I personally have used all the cliches down the years without actually thinking about it......(I'm ashamed to admit ) and its hard for me to see the evidence in one lifetime so what your sayin makes more sense........
Have you your clothes picked out for tomorrow nite yet.....

I just think that we have to do the most we can to be the best we can Vinny, and more than that is a part of the ongoing process of learning

vinny1967: Hi G............Yeah your not havin the best of luck at the mo.......
Well if Karma applies I would suggest you hobble to the local newsagent and buy a lottery ticket..........
Are you out of the plaster yet ?
Might just do that Vinny
Did you here about that guy a few weeks ago. His numbers came up on the lottery, I think it was a few million. After checking and re-checking, joyous celebrations followed. It turned out the newsagent had give him a ticket for the Wednesday draw instead of the Saturday draw. Now that is what you call bad luck.

Another five weeks in plaster Vinney.
I'd kill the newsagent and pay for it in another life I hope.........
Five weeks.......
You will have your own path beatin in the dales when you eventually get it removed i'd say.......
In a time long past, there was an old monk who, through diligent practice, had attained a certain degree of spiritual penetration.
He had a young novice who was about eight years old. One day the monk looked at the boy's face and saw there that he would die within the next few months. Saddened by this he told the boy to take a long holiday and go and visit his parents. 'Take your time, don't hurry back, as he felt the boy should be with his family when he died.
Three months later to the monks astonishment he saw the boy walking up the mountain. When he arrived he looked intently at the boy's face and saw now that he would live to a rip old age.
Tell me everything you saw and did on your travels said the monk. So the boy started to tell of his journey down the mountain. He told of villages and towns he had passed through, of rivers forded and mountains climbed.
One day he came upon a stream in flood...as he was trying to cross he saw a colony of ants had become trapped on a small island formed by the flooding stream. Moved by compassion he got a branch and held it to the island and then reached for the bank. The boy held the branch steadily until every ant was across safely.
'So' thought the old monk to himself, 'that is why the Gods have lengthened his days.'

I do believe in karma, yes.
I am not going to pretend that I know alot about the technical definitions of it, because I dont, but I do definately believe in trying to do good deeds and being kind to other people, and being true to yourself and your conscience.
I have done a certain amount of reading about buddhism and taoism, and although I am not particularly religious, I do try to follow the concepts laid out in these belief systems. It can be extremely testing sometimes, and sometimes I "fall off the path", but as soon as I can, I climb back on.
"What goes around, comes around?" - well, I sincerely hope so.

So if I go out and do something nice, something will happen to me......
Does anyone just think that good things happen, bad things happen.....They can happen to good or bad people.........and we just use these cliches to help explain and reassure people......

Good morning, Vinny. I believe that what goes around does come around. I always have. Even when someone is nasty to me, or purposely mistreats me. I "try" really hard not to let it make me angry to the point where I lash out at them.
I know that when I try and get even it always back fires, and something big goes wrong in my life.
I believe in God, and I just ask him to handle it for me. And walk away as fast as I can. Because I do have a nasty temper.

Hi Wendy.........
Good to see you and hope Chuck is doing well.........
It makes a lot more sense to me that someone who believes in Karma is also Religous and I can really respect that. It ties in with what we are taught as children and helps us handle ourselves in times of stress..........
And I think whoever gets a round house slap off you would really deserve it.........
I don't believe in "karma". My father never received what he deserved for what he did to me. It's nice to think that "Karma" works...truth is, people get away with unspeakable crimes while the victims suffer
