A recent study on the impact of imported flowers market on the carbon footprint of our planet revealed shocking results. The bunch of flowers that you pick from your retail mart every weekend is your source for brightening up your living room for the rest of the week. But did you ever realize that this seemingly innocent act of yours could be harming our planet in a big way?

Yes, to the surprise of most people, buying imported flowers has been shown to leave a great deal of carbon footprint on our planet. The annual spend on imported cut flowers in UK are currently pegged at £1.7 billion. Let us have closer look at how it is impacting our planet.

Imported Flowers Can Cause Drought Elsewhere

The increased demand for roses has led to the growth of floriculture as a profession in Kenya. Roses are grown here and imported to European countries. This improves their economy and employs hundreds of farm workers. Large tracts of forest and grassland are converted to plant roses that have aggravated the already existing drought problem. A similar situation is seen in Central America where farm workers suffer from severe health conditions due to over exposure to pesticides to protect the flowering plants.

What does that say about bald men or those that shave their heads????

The reason behind this is that the handwritten letters "I" & "J" look the same.

And oddly enough, there is no "J Street" in Washington DC either.

That's not crossing spiders with goats, that's genetic engineering by humans to isolate a specific protein, and whether or not it's ethical or not is a totally different thread I think. "Crossing" implies interspecies mating and in this case is impossible. That's a fact.

Rightiho you two

Hi mr JustJim and mr AA

the thing is... the spider web on its own, to spin and have enough to weave is too costly... so they introduced the goat part to be able to do something to the milk with the strength of the spiders web to make it more affordable..

I am just interested in the affordable part... because earlier on this year... there was a news story about the yellow orb spider, and the dress that was made up from it... apparently,, the fabric is light, tough, and warm... and yellow.. a gold color... and its lovely...

We girls ... ( not saying who) spent a lot of time on Skype sharing all the infom... grin

Just done the search on this dress made from spider web amazing first time I’ve heard of it.

The reason why they don’t farm spiders, apparently it is impossible due to the fact they eat each other. I guess they never thought of separating them. wine
