To Our Flag

Verse I

In the good ol' U.S.A.,
Thank the stars for ev'ry day.
Where the people know they're free
To be who they want to be.
It's the country of my birth.
There's no finer place on earth.
And I love our Stars and Bars,
In peacetime, and during wars.

Chorus

May she wave on through the night!
May she always stand for right!
May she guard the ones who guard us,
Keep them safe til mornin's light.

Verse II

The defenders of our Flag,
Never stop and never sag.
Working hard both night and day,
So that we can live our way.
May not always quite agree,
With so called powers that be,
But the brave that for us fight,
Glory, keep them safe tonight.

Verse III

As their buddies they protect,
Those at home they don't neglect.
They go fight for you and me,
So our Flag flies o'er the free.
There are nations far and wide,
Wave their country's flag with pride.
That to me is more than fine,
You wave yours and I'll wave mine.

About this poem:
Blatant, unabashed patriotism. Not stylish, I know, but it's how I feel. Got nothin' against other countries, have visited a few and hope to visit a lot more, but this will always be MY country.

sing it, FAL, if that's what your heart feels!
mine, well, conflicted always. i prefer a world without borders at all...we are one race...human. but i do honor my forefathers, and the brave who still fight, whether reason right or wrong. i will pause and bow my head tonight, at the anthem played, at the last baseball game of the season. YIPPIE! (i still wave the jolly roger, yo!) unabashed patriotism abounds. good work. cheers

Thanks Gashly! Until that ideal world comes about, when we all live as one, my loyalties lie here.

Quite common for a human mind to get attached with the soil that he has embraced, but it's not many that could pen a write that would motivate and brush the spirits of common man, you are uncommon...a stand away in the crowd...nice write...

Yeah rob, I'm sure that Elgar and Benson were filled with pride in their "boys" that fought in the Boer Wars when they penned that wave of the Union Jack. Although I'm not sure I would have supported the reasons then, any more than I can condone what we're doing now in the middle east. Still we can all be proud of our troops as individuals...

Thanks GH! Coming from a poet such as yourself, that means a lot!
