Purpose of Poet's Corner is POETRY NOT POLITICS

Hey Group, this is not a poem... just want to clear some things up that seem to be brewing here right now.

The purpose of the Poet's Corner is POETRY NOT POLITICS.

The subject of a poem MAY be about a current event or about an author's own political opinion (freedom to express).

Comments to those poems should be directed at the poem itself.. a friendly constructive critique/discussion of the poem as it was posted.. nothing more. Comments may NOT be a personal attack on the beliefs or 'person' of the poet that may be indicated in the poem (respect for others and the rules).

The Poet's Corner is NOT a soapbox to argue politics, politicians, or political parties.

Neither poem nor comments may be used as a personal attack on any other member.

In the Poet's Corner it doesn't matter if politically you are liberal, conservative, or any other party. It doesn't matter who you voted for in the last election, or who you think caused current political local or world problems. This is an international site, rich in the diversity of opinions and writing skills from members of different cultures, religions, locations, educations, and language worldwide. It's not surprising that we do not all agree. But we need to be tolerant of our differences, be openminded to ideas we don't like and, if we're willing, we can actually learn a lot from others who are very different from us.

Remember, you're here because you love writing and verse, not to support a political agenda. If you do, you're risking your membership and ability to post here.

dear C.S. creators,

First, I thank you for the opportunity to meet many interesting people, from, as you note, all continents; and to provide a forum for any and all to "publish" their poetry, their rhymes, their words of wisdom and humor.

Political and social poetry has a long history as a means for stating life beliefs, convictions, and deep seated loves, and yes, detests. Many great poets of the past, stated their social givings / misgivings with the actions of there fellow men in their poetry. Langston Hughes, Homer, and Bob Dylan, to name a few, had insightful and deeply moving words for us all to learn from.

While you clearly state that "The purpose of the Poet's Corner is POETRY NOT POLITICS", I respectfully would add that all acts of man can be construed as being "political, n: concerning or related to politics, the art and process of governing" (Wiki), as in the sincerest sense, we all govern ourselves, our own actions.

Everything about my life, and all I believe, have believed in the year since I came upon this digital corner, by shear serendipity, is an expression of my politic...of life.

While attacking individuals is an expression of ones displeasure, and therefor distasteful, it shows the ability of us all to be human. I for one, acquiesce to my humanity, and seek pardon and patience. Tolerance is vital to any successful human endevor.

I can only support that which I believe, and oppose that which I find abhorrent. To simply, remain quiet, is untenable.

Having stated all that, I do agree that everything has a time and place. I would not sleep in my oven, wash dishes in my toilet, any more than I would write poems in the dark.

Thank you for your time and space.

Sitting in the corner and looking at the pictures was what Mr. Bean was doing when "working" at a museum. "Sitting in the corner" and not being concerned with what's going on in the world is not for me. I personally haven't come across an openly political tirade on PC and have never thought it was appropriate to discuss politics on such forums. But, on the other hand, poetry can not be only about love, longing, death and loss, love and joy, etc. We all got to be involved in many ways and state our own opinion on world matters ... though subtly and with artistic means, characteristic of poetry. I'll speak for myself - I am an amateur in poetry and will remain so, but whatever I am writing is coming from heart. This is what poetry is about. Heart and inspiration are driving forces here, and I can put off my immediate duties and devote myself to a very simple and insignificant poem for the sheer joy of it, and find great relief and pleasure in return. I think poetry is all about this ... the pleasure and relief it gives us in times of stress, restlessness and what not. Besides, I relish in my fellow poets' comments and regard them as friendly hands outstretched from time and space to hold and support me.

The purpose of Poets' Corner has been well attained - in my case and, I am sure, in many others' cases and I thank the CS organizers for making it possible for us.

I agree: the Poet's Corner is for Poetry.
There are plenty of forums at C.S. to debate issues, but the Poetry Corner is exactly that- a corner for Poetry- the writing of verse, including the freedom of expression- on all kinds of subjects.

While I don't agree with every subject posted in a poem, that's not the point. It's about writing, expression, creativeness. I've seen great poetry from authors whose religious or political beliefs are very different from my own. I can choose to comment on someone's Poetry or not. But will not attack a person's personal belief expressed in a poem here(& apologize if I inadvertently ever have).

While I'm not a poet myself, I really enjoy the writing here, and greatly admire such talent.

Sincerely,
SCatlyn teddybear

(If a person believes something is inappropriate, such as happens in the case of a "troll"- a troublemaker out to ruin a site- report it to C.S. They are very quick to act on the rare occasion when a troll has decided to invade the Poet's Corner & is reported.)

The true Poet gives and dreams of giving.

The true Poet loves and dream of loving.

The Poet is a lover, not a fighter.

It cannot be otherwise.
