The Swan

Far far away there lived a duck,
She was not good looking its was her bad luck.

Everyone would tease her and make fun,
She could do nothing but to cry and run.

She tried to help everyone but nobody with her ever talked,
Nobody was her friend,on seeing her away they walked.

Everyday looking in water her looks she would curse,
She used to ask god why he made her so worse.

Same would happen on each and everyday,
So she decided forever in the nest she'll stay.

All the time in the nest the duck used to cry,
Nobody went to help her nobody even gave a try.

The duck just wished somehow she would die,
But someone was watching over her form the sky.

One night with tears of the duck it was raining,
She saw an angel but she thought she was dreaming.

Dont cry my dear to the duck she told,
Even if you dont look good but you have a heart of gold.

I want to look good to her she replied,
I want friends with whom I can have a glide.

The angel smiled and cast a spell,
Then unconsious to the ground the duck fell.

After sometime she woke up at dawn,
She was different now,now she was a swan.

Sadness from her life went without a trace,
Now she was a beautiful creature, now she was full of grace.

Everyone liked her now, everyone wanted to be her friend,
But she had the same old heart in the end.

Everyone would talk with her and everywhere they would follow,
But she came to know they just liked her looks and they were all shallow.

Becoming a swan happiness in her life it brought,
Are we different from them just give it a thought.

Why does a duck lives a life in tatters,
Why did everyone liked the Swan,
DOES LOOKS REALLY MATTER???

For as young as you are you've done a great psychological job! You touched a very sore string in a woman's life, which proved a failure because of such trifle as good looks. My son, who is of the same age as you, would never trouble his mind with such matters. Thank you for your insightful poem.
