Troglodyte Cave Diary

Racing to the hidden cave
scratched bones upon the wall

a refuge within a darkness
lit of memories told

the warm of fire
shall not engulf the trembling
bodies of fear

It must go out!

but to open the lids of sight
heaving breathes
of the dying
might

dripping sweat falling
into the lines of age

a haunted silence
like lowered clouds of mist

hanging bats twitching to the scuff

insects crawling to dive
deep within the
cusp

as hooves of thunder rolled upon the sky

within my retreat
I guarded
silent

where they shall always

Lie

Hi, sophiasummer,
...scratched bones upon the wall... Such is the mystery of the cave dweller (prehistoric, or otherwise). ...dripping sweat falling into the lines of age... what great phraseology.

Hi Sophia...it reminded me of the Chinese ship that sunk many years ago, top of the west coast carrying many dead back to their homelands....Now bones are found in nooks and crannies, even caves.....in the Far North around Northern Hokianga....
Really enjoyed this one...Kathyteddybear

Sophia, for some reason your poem made me feel a bit like I do when I look in the mirror sometimes!confused Then it reminded me of those beautiful cave paintings of the horses that seemed to move if you lit a fire nearby. Very mysterious and full of the darkness of the unknown. There was a lot the cave dwellers didn't know, yet they flourished in to 'us' wink

Lovely poetry
