Youth is Wasted on the Young

Youth is wasted on the young,
they treat it like some foul smelling dung.
Instead of embracing their moment in time,
they play computer games, it's such a crime.

Back in my youth, we would be out all day,
cycling, climbing, among the fray.
Playing games, usually with a ball,
cricket, soccer, we played them all.

But nowadays it's on a screen,
shut up in rooms, and never seen.
No sunshine, upon their faces,
never exploring, exciting places.

In my day, life was real,
action games, seeking the thrill.
Falling out of trees, and grazing knees,
life in my day was one big wheeze.

I agree with what you say, dear poet, computer games have stuck many young people to computers and isolated them from the world, but luckily there are those who are very active and interested in studying and exploring the world around them. Not everything is so bad as you describe, and it's good, but the problem you mentioned is real and something much be done about it!doh Thank you for sharing! thumbs up tip hat flower

I agree. Back in my days I looked for 4 leaf clovers, laid on our backs and watched the clouds go by (trying to look at the different shapes and what they looked like). Played cowboy and Indians or pretended to be other characters. Used our imagination a lot!! Entertained ourselves. For Friday or Sat. night entertainment, went to town for an ice cream cone, sat in the car to eat it and watched people and cars go by - the whole family. Back in the good old days of the 50's. cartwheel daydream hmmm motorcycle detective detective popcorn

Thanks for sharing.

When I was young my aunts would say those words.....now when I am made aware of my age......I smile and think the same, recalling my aunts words.....like, if I knew then what I know now....
