Another Christmas Eve

Another Christmas Eve - Sept 13, 2009
Jim Magee - Poet of the "Common" Man
Dedicated to Jason & Linda - Much Love - Dad / Jim

Late one Christmas eve, while the kids were fast asleep
Momma & I were going crazy - we had promises to keep
We were filling up stocking and wrapping up toys
When suddenly we heard just a terrible noise

A fool in red clothes - reindeer and sleigh in the hedge
fell off the roof, landing too close to the edge
I said "hey dude, what's up? Is this your first game?
And believe it or not, he called me by name

He said "now listen here, Jim - may I please call you that?"
I've had a tough night so far, and I lost my damn hat!
Your roof really sucks - too steep on the fly
But this is my next stop, I can't pass it by

If I did, what'll the kids say, when they wake up to find?
You and little momma going out of your mind
Trying to come up with the things that I didn't leave
I'm just getting too old for another Christmas Eve!
