inside my thoughts

Unto where has this lengthened breath of air taken me?
Unto who shall I obey, for my life has said to be free?
Unto what shall I maketh of my dull and lifeless soul?
In this darkened rivalry of heat versus cold.

And how does it come to pass that I lie here awake?
My emperor of thoughts, sole ruler of the fake,
With my heart of desired passion for the one I truly love
With the tales of wisdom, kept only by the above.

Where shall I be when the clock trikes "time up"?
Still condemning my shadow, drinking from the devil's cup?
Still hiding behind eyes that just would not see,
Yet eyes that were open only, to the planes of misery.

When shall the sounds of silence enter my sleep?
That for which my heart will not allow me to keep,
When shall my heart beat as one with perfection?
Deafening the howling drones of unforgiving rejection.

For I am but one, lost within many
For I am but many, lost within one
I am two at a time, with none by my side
I am but a soul in the dark, yet one will not hide.

About this poem:
This was a very confusing time for me, i had so many unanswered questions and distorted beliefs about life and myself. I was battling to sleep, crying all the time, it was a difficult time too, but thankfully, that has all gone away, as this was many years ago.

A MATTER OF GRAVITY

WHERE ART THOU WHEN I NEED THEE MOST?
AH YES, THOU HAST BECOME A GHOST
A WISHING WELL EMPTY, A POND DEPLETED
AS I STAND BEFORE THEE, A MAN DEFEATED

I HAVE BECOME OVERCOME BY DEMONS INSIDE
AND WHEN ANY REQUEST OF YOU "WHY HAST HE DIED?"
SAY UNTO THEM "HE WAS A MAN WITH THIRST UNQUENCHED"
AND TELL THEM I DIED WITH MY TEETH WELL CLENCHED

"CLENCHED" SAYETH EACH "BUT WHY?" THEY WONDER
"BECAUSE," RESPONDS YOU "OF THE CERTAIN THUNDER
HEAR NOT THEE THE THUNDER WHICH KILLED HIM WELL?
"OH YES," THEY WILL SAY, "NOW I HEAR WHAT CONDEMNED HIM TO HELL"

"SO," SAYETH THEE "WITHOUT ANY DOUBT
THERE WILL, BECAUSE OF HIS DEATH, BE FORMED A DROUGHT
A DRYNESS NO MORTAL NOR GOD CAN CREATE
FOR I TELL YOU MY MAN DIED OF PURE HATE"

"T'WAS HATRED WHICH CONDEMNED HIM AND DAMNED HIM TO FIRE
AND I SWEAR UNTO ALL MY MAN WAS NO LIAR
HE TOLD THE TRUTH BEFORE THE TEMPLE OF LOVE
UNTIL A THOUSAND DEMONIC ANGELS APPEARED FROM ABOVE"

SO LET THEM HEAR THE WORDS OF A MAN SWORN UNTO DEATH
AND VOW UNTO THEM THAT WITH EACH BLESSED BREATH
EASINESS ARRIVED THAT EVE, MY SWEET
BECAUSE T'WAS WITH EAGERNESS MY DEATH DID I MEET

THUSLY DO I SWEAR WHEN YOU GAZE ALL AROUND
AND FIND NOT MY BODY TO WHERE HELL WAS BOUND
REMEMBER WHEN WE MET, A MOST MEMORABLE DATE
AND THEN CAME THE NIGHT YOUR MAN DIED OF SELF-HATE

Like A Cowboy

She was standing at the bar, doing a shot of Jack.
When I walked up she said I like your cowboy hat.
I ordered up a cold one,she said cowboy do you like to dance.
you look like a gambler, why don't you take a chance.
I saw the ring on her finger,i've been here before,
I've seen love come and go.
She led me to the dance floor, wrapped her arms around me tight.
She whispered in my ear, cowboy don't let me go.

And were just two lonely people in need of some company.
And if we fall in love it'll only be for one night.
She'll take the ring off her finger,I won't even tell her
my name.
And in the mornin' like a cowboy i'll ride off into
the sunlight.

Well as we moved together, her body close to mine, out on
that dance floor all alone.
I looked into her eye's and I could see her desire, she whispered
in my ear, cowboy take me home.

And were just two lonely people in need of some company.
And if we fall in love it'll only be for one night.
She'll take the ring off her finger,I won't even tell her
my name.
And in the mornin' like a cowboy i'll ride off into
the sunlight.

We got to her place, she led me to her bed,she said cowboy
I need you so.
And as we made love, she wrapped her arms around me tight.
She whispered in my ear, cowboy don't let me go.

'Cause were just two lonely people in need of some company.
If we fall in love it'll only be for one night.
She'll take the ring off her finger,I won't even tell her
my name.
And in the mornin' like a cowboy i'll ride off into
the sunlight.

She looked down at me,as I held her tight, she closed her
eye's and threw back her hair.
And as we moved together, she wrapped her arms around me tight.
She whispered in my ear, cowboy i'm almost there.

And were just two lonely people in need of some company.
And if we fall in love it'll only be for one night.
She'll take the ring off her finger,I won't even tell her
my name.
And in the mornin' like a cowboy i'll ride off into
the sunlight.

She fell fast asleep as I held her tight, when I got dressed
I could still smell her on my skin.
I walked out that door, into that morning sun,I knew i'd
never see her again.

And we were just two lonely people in need of some company.
No we didn't fall in love but we made love all night.
She took that ring off her finger,I never told her my name.
And this mornin' like a cowboy i'm ridin' off into
the sunlight, yeah this mornin' like a cowboy i'm ridin'
off into the sunlight.
Ride cowboy ride.

THE DENIAL OF DENIM

THE DENIL OF DENIM

I still and will sleep in the denim jacket you gave me to own
Now that I am sleeping all alone
Do you remember the peace sign I drew on the back?
And now it’s your peacefulness which I lack

I won’t even wash it or have it cleaned
And from this jacket I may never be weaned
It’s security, it’s memories and has the aroma of fresh morning dew
Some cloth, some ink and a reminder of the time I spent with you

Actually it could use a rinse or two
But I don’t want to rid any part of you
Not the look in your eyes when you gave it to me
And without you that denim jacket seems garish and gloomy

Besides “Peace” it also says “love” that now seems ironic
Because you swore I was your love and you were my tonic
But elixirs can’t exorcise what seems totally premeditated
And I don’t think the AROMA of you will ever be thusly faded

I return, I think!

Return to me, I say that a lot now
For people I love drop away as though
swallowed by the quaking of the Earth.
Even the crack of thunder peals rhe air
As each gave up an agizing, last breath.
A son, a husband and a first boy
hoiend who was a friend for 55years.
A woman of deep faith for years, I
still ask periodically, Where di they go?
Where are they? and I wonder, will they ever return as I have?
