Dadude62: It was a partisan deal to begin with, with deficit reduction to come from programs such as social security and medicare. Not one penny from from the wealthy who have reneged on the promise of job creation, and have the lowest tax rates in 60 yrs. To their credit Dems., liberals, do not want to let that happen.
If repubs would say that they would leave SS and medicare alone, they would have a chance getting their bill passed.

Social Security does not belong to the Government, it belongs to the people who paid into it...and Medicare does not need cutbacks, it needs fraud clean up...

thumbs up

I just watched on CNN Senator McConnell and Harry Reid argue back and forth on the Senate floor. I was so embarrassed that these two people and their cohorts have brought this stalmate almost to the final hour.

I also saw Admiral Mullen address the troops telling them that they may not get they paychecks AND that they have to cut back !!!

I find this preposterous that men and women who have put their life on the line to keep this country free may not get their paychecks and to add insult to injury, they have to cut back on material they use...frustrated

We need to look at the disability end of SS as well ....we all know that there are millions out there that don't deserve those checks...but get them.....Not going to get any popularity saying this but....If you do not pay into the system you should not be allowed to dip into the funds....with the exception of children who parents have passed so that they can continue on with an education and become an asset to the community.

I agree with you. My first job was when I was 14 years old and I have paid into it until July 2010 when I lost my job. I am one who has her fingers crossed that I will get a check this month and for the continuing months.

I agree with that. Maybe repubs would do themselves a favor by making that clear and promising not to tough these programs.

I know that there is fraud and that should be looked into. But there are many who are disabled, what do we do with those folks?

Dadude62: They're the only ones that can afford to pay taxes. They will not pay their employees a decent wage. Less if they could get away with it. They have been given tax break after tax break under the guise of job creation. We should be inundated with jobs. Instead we have 9-10% unemployment, and those who are working, long hours, 2 jobs, no benefits or overtime, in continuous fear of losing their jobs to someone in India who will be exploited for less.
Just how much taxes would you have some poor guy who can barely support his family, has no health benefits, can't heat or cool his apartment, pay?

Well... I guess this is what the fightings between the "leaders" is all about.....

The ones who made the money crisis, the moneymakers - moneytanks - moneycollectors...... Simply will not pat the price - for their own faults..... (the same here in denmark)

The faults and the blames are adressed - to the ones who's got little or nothing..... the ones that could not afford a good pension - because some employers still pay lousy salleries, when they can get away with it....

the unemployed - are not a dimminshed group.... how are they going to make a living ????? taking a job that isn't there ???? Ohhh come on......

It's not the ones who are going to suffer the most - who started the last very expensive 2 wars..... And why - and what for ??? Not much good came out of that fighting...... just a tremendous lot of people have been killed... What for ...?? and at what cost..???

America is no longer the most beloved Nation in the world.... Even a past you all can be very proud of.....

I think it's time the ones who can pay for the blame they did, should do it..... and not ask for tax-cuts.....

I have no idear of what will happen......

It seems that politicians - who should be leading a great Nation - has gone nuts ...

It would be very, bery good - if they dropped the fightings - and decided what should be done...... So their citicents again can be pround of them..... But I have a feeling - the last will take years ... if ever..

Maybe it's time for a little change in your political system... in the way you wote.... So one man one wote, could be the future... and what mattered.... and not who can spen the most for a personal campaign.... Sorry I mention it...

Don216: $9 Trillion to 14 in less than 3 years. Thankfully everyone has a job, no mortgages are in default and GDP growth is over 3% ..... Oh, WAIT ...

Must be all that change we were promised!! Don't see much hope though.

What did he win the Nobel Prize for?? Dividing people??

Our Token One in Chief does not have the foggiest idea about what he is doing as President. Many Many in AMERICA feel the economy is going in the WRONG way under Obama's regimes leadership (or lack thereof). He really helped screw up the American ecomomy so badly this time. And, YES, HE has his very own signature on it. BIG TIME!!! Okay, this clown has a record to run on now! A LOUSY ONE, I might add!!!

How's the HOPE and CHANGE workin' out for EVERYONE?? Giving him an ADDITIONAL 2.5 TRILLION to last for his first term, is FEAKIN' RIDICUIOUS MISTAKE!
You really believe this ALL-TIME SPENDING CHAMP IN U.S. HISTORY won't SPEND SPEND SPEND AND SPEND SOME MORE?? Only promising deficet spending cuts over 10 to 20 year periods...by that time this clown is out of office and DEMS have all but forgotten to honor their FALSE PROMISES to the country and it's citizens!

He personally runs the national debt up $3 TRILLION in just 2 1/2 years in office, then it's somebody else's fault!? This is a hoot! Now that your hero Barry actually has a record to judge this him on this time around, and it's not ONLY just this "Hope and Change" bumper sticker you clowns have fell for. , it's Not gonna work this time around in 2012.

I'm told, although I have enough credits to receive Social Security, that I will never see a penny I paid into it because of my state government pension. That's not right either.

Do I go to a regular Social Security office to withdraw everything I paid into it? It's my money and I want it now! flex

Social Security was not designed to be a pension w/benefits. It was set up to be a supplement.... so why don't I get mine? Wy do foreigners who never paid a dime into it receive social security? why why why is this system so corrupt and unfair?

I think social security should be looked at closer than SS disability. Disability is a life-line for most recipients including two of my female friends having MS. They take medicines regularly to help stop the advancement of their disease. The monthly charge for these meds. alone is just crazy.

If folks would stop making false claims ....maybe it would not be so hard to get and the lawyers would not be needed.....so I blame the scammers for that as well...dunno

because the people helped make it that way ...take the welfare system ...great idea it is ...

Roosevelt, when starting the welfare system set it up not as a "handout" but as a "hand-up" as the funds WERE supposed to be only till the person was back on his/her feet and PAYS it back...that right Welfare was supposed to be PAYED BACK by those it helped.

Altho his thoughts and heart was in the right place, he and the others failed to see generation after generation on welfare, born on welfare ,live their lives on welfare, and teach the next generation how to work the system..to the extent that playing the system WAS thier career choice.

Social Security Disability…my story:

I was in a terrible tow lift accident in 2006. The tow motor fell on top of my legs. I had surgery on my left knee and the right tow on my right foot had to be amputated. The Doctor told me that I would never be able to work a physical job again and that I might be in a wheel chair by next year.

It took my Attorney 3 ½ years to finally settle my case with SS. I had savings in the meantime and it was almost not nearly enough to get me through. When SS looked at my case, they saw that I had worked hard and diligently all of my life. They calculated how much I had paid in and gave me enough of a lump sum payment and a monthly income to help me get by.

Since I can no longer handle the ice and snow in the north US, I purchased a small Bungalow in Hawaii for the season. If they cut my benefits or eliminate it altogether, what should I do?

I supplement my income within the guidelines of SS with writing small articles at 1 ½ penny a word.

What would you do? Be a gun toting wheel charier and a Rebel against the US Government?

The income in my profile is from 2010, when I received my settlement. 2011 will be almost zilch.

Listen to what, then, Senator Obama had said about the DEBT CEILING:

I quote "The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US
Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to
finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America ’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally.
Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our
children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of
leadership. Americans deserve better."

-- Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

I'm just saying...if your leader talks out of both sides of his mouth about this issue...can you really Trust Him?? I mean- now that he's President, he's in favor of shifting the burden of bad chioces onto the backs of our children and grandchildren by increasing American's DEBT, with HIS Government’s reckless fiscal policies, showing his BAD Leadership. YES!, it is a sign to ALL FOREIGN COUNTRIES WE CANNOT PAY OUR BILLS!!
