A simple statement:

On Thursday, July 28, Obama's approval rating was only 43% among American voters.

On Friday, July 29, (one day later} his approval rating dropped 3% more to 40%.

95% of African American voters in April gave him an approval of 77%.

The latest poll shows that Obama's approval rating among African American voters has dropped below 50%.

I think that both sides agree that the debt and spending has to be reduced. And that there has to be a temporary increase in debt. The stumbling block is, who is going to pay in the long run. All of us "including the wealthy", or just the shrinking middle class, social sec, and medicare recipients. Those who really can't afford it.
Repubs, have shown no will to compromise whatsoever.

I disagree on the sentence though about Repubs have shown no will to compromise. In fact, it’s the Dems that won't compromise.

Social Security is not an entitlement. The working class has paid into SS their entire lives. That is their money and they are entitled to what they invested.

The US Congress squandered the money away and used the profits for the operations of Government over the years.

I still say that the final solution to the US debt crises is to cut funding money to other Nations...also...get the heck out of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya,(and the new coming 4th war} Syria.

I agree whole heartedly about with your last sentence. Also that the Gov. has stolen the money from SS. I do get the impression from Repubs like Ryan and Cantor that they consider SS to be an entitlement.
I'm not sure why you think Dems. wont compromise. They have put entitlements on the chopping block. They want to go back to the Clinton tax rates or at least have the rich share in some of the pain, and Repubs don't. Not one iota.

If the Repubs would agree to raise taxes on the rich even a little then I believe this crisis would be over.

I read that they were going to repeat the same process in Dec.

It wouldn't even be so bad if they both met somewhere in the middle.

The US Congress:

The House of Representatives (the American People} has a majority of Conservatives. The Pub bill passed by a 218/212 vote for a balanced debt budget. This included raising the debt limit (which I believe in because we always have to do that}. It also included a fair deficit cut proposal.

This is why I say that the Dems are holding back instead of the Tea Party and Pubs:

The US Senate has the majority of Dems. Less than 2 hours after the house vote, the Senate struck the deal down. Partisanship.

It's not the Conservatives that are holding back, it’s the Liberals.

They're the only ones that can afford to pay taxes. They will not pay their employees a decent wage. Less if they could get away with it. They have been given tax break after tax break under the guise of job creation. We should be inundated with jobs. Instead we have 9-10% unemployment, and those who are working, long hours, 2 jobs, no benefits or overtime, in continuous fear of losing their jobs to someone in India who will be exploited for less.
Just how much taxes would you have some poor guy who can barely support his family, has no health benefits, can't heat or cool his apartment, pay?

It was a partisan deal to begin with, with deficit reduction to come from programs such as social security and medicare. Not one penny from from the wealthy who have reneged on the promise of job creation, and have the lowest tax rates in 60 yrs. To their credit Dems., liberals, do not want to let that happen.
If repubs would say that they would leave SS and medicare alone, they would have a chance getting their bill passed.
