GotTrance: Having food delivered to your home or business is a convenience provided for you so you do not have to cook or stop what you are doing and get the food yourself.
It used to be that delivery drivers got paid minimum wage. Not anymore. Most places are now paying the drivers as little as $4.75 an hour.
The delivery driver is just like your waiter/waitress at a restaurant. Only in this case he has to drive to your place. She has to look out for other drivers, children and animals. Not to mention driving in the rain, snow, sleet and the dark of night. They have to obey the speed limits and other rules of the road.
I say to them..........Here....let me give you a tip.....And when they come with their hand out streached I say....."get out of this racket"
In most cases he drives his own car, pays for the gas, maintenance and insurance out of his pocket. With the price of gas so high it is costing the drivers double what it did just a year ago.
Please, TIP the delivery person. They work hard for you.

I always tip him, but only get a take-away Dominoes Pizza on a Tuesday as it is buy one, get one free so I eat a couple or five slices and freeze the one and a half pizza that is left to reheat for a couple of mins in the microwave.
I only didn't tip a hairdresser once as I asked for a bob-cut and she gave me a crop cut! I wondered why she was doing so many short layers!!!
I only tip in a restaurant if I have been served by just one person for all courses.
We never had good customer service up till a few years ago in the UK and everyone used to say things like, "if only we had customer service like that in the USA." However things have changed recently and we do experience good customer service. I am sure people will come along and say the UK is still as bad as ever, but I have not experienced that lately - things have definitely improved here.

The Federal Minimum Wage is "no less than $7.25 per hour", and no state can have it's own minimum wage lower than the Federal. (Most states are actually higher, with western states, surprisingly, being the highest. Washington and Oregon are the top two--to answer the question about delivery driver tipping, here's my take on it: If the pizza company advertises that it has a delivery fee, I do not tip. One or the other, buddy, I'm not going to tip twice. (The cost of delivery needs to be factored into the end cost. It would be like charging to butter the toast). If, however, the pizza company advertises "Free Delivery", and such is really true, then I tip the guy three bucks, four if the order was a large one. But not more, it's not the same service as a waiter or bellhop. JMO
whoa Nellie--I respectfully take issue with this way of thinking. The business IS delivery! What would you think if you went into an auto parts store and bought a battery, some spark plugs, and motor oil, and after ringing up your sale, the clerk said, "That will be an additional five dollars for shopping here"?
GotTrance: That's a huge misunderstanding. The delivery charge is not a TIP. A TIP is something you pay out of the kindness of your heart. Even if the driver is getting a commission per delivery it is still not a TIP. The delivery charge goes to the store, not the driver.
sorry--this is the post I meant to respond to. This darn computer!
HOWEVER--"GotTrance"-- here's something that's been on my mind a lot, concerning servers of all kinds, bartenders, waiters, etc... and before I go into this, I have worked in that capacity, and I do tip, and I do think it's the right thing to do, but consider this: Many people work for minimum wage, and they work just as hard as a waiter or bartender, maybe even harder, but they do not get a tip, yet are expected to live on it, as well. Where is it some divine right of servers to get tipped? JMO
