Yah, and I'm sad enough to put some decorations up for the ducks in their hut. I get them some food and treats as well, especially as it's so cold out there.
My daughter has two dogs and each one has a stocking with his name on it. When one pet dies, a new stocking is put up for the new member of the family..............and we buy they doggied presents which is basically to keep them busy while others are opeing their gifts...

Are you asking what happens to the ones that died.
She has never had a pet die at home. They have always been way up in years and too sick to go on suffering so she has to take them to her vet to have them put them down, which causes crying among all of us. The vet freezes the pet after it no longer has a heartbeat and when he accumulates several pets, they are taken to a crematory.
Most of us have a pet and love them, no matter if a dog, cat, bird or lizard. They provide companionship, safety, love and are dependent on us in return. Pets are very much like Children…many about 2 years old in Human intelligence. Always give them a stocking treat.
The domestic cat was introduced to human society in Europe during the middle ages, when the Black Plague was rampant. There was a huge infestation of rats that helped spread the disease. Cats introduced themselves, took care of the rodents, and then we began taking care of our Felines; and we have taught them how to take care of themselves.
I had two Jack Russell Terriers - Rusty and Judy (RIP). Not only did they get Christmas Stockings, they got Christmas cards and coats. My family used to send cards and try to out-do each other with gifts. One year they got four coats each of varying colours and themes. A retired couple who live near me, used to buy them "educational" toys. They have five dogs themselves so I had to go buy their dogs something nice for Christmas. I live in the country and used to take R and J for walks down the fields, so it was a treat if we went into the town for a walk on the leash. They would pull me to the bus stop to be admired by the people waiting for the bus. They liked the fuss made by complete strangers. I could write a book - no one would believe half the antics they got up to!

I have to say that I think my cats are smarter than a 2 year old. They are smart enough to have me trained....to do whatever they want me to do.

When my daughter was small the dogs had Christmas presents.
One year when I was particularly short of cash, I explained to her that they wouldn't notice the difference. She crossed her arms, glared at me and told me straight - she refused to partake in Christmas, or open a single present unless everybody had something.
Two dogs, a hamster and a tank full of giant African snails all had to have pressies.

I went up to the supermarket in the next village about an hour before it closed on Christmas Eve and bought lots of bags of posh salad for them reduced down to pennies. They were thrilled.

You have me worried Jac. Erm...Ugh...how do you know they were thrilled with the salad.
