cruiser68: Who ever he was he was the "Bill Gates" of his time, saw a great way to make money, and went for it. The Controllers of all religions are worth uncountable billions,,,,,J.M.O.
The philosopher has never killed any priests, whereas the priest has killed a great many philosophers. -- Denis Diderot, Observations on Drawing Up of Laws (1774), repr. in Lester G Crocker, ed, Selected Writings, ed. (1966), quoted from The Columbia Dictionary of Quotations[/quo
If you want to know who made religion I think you have to go back to when wonder first entered our ancestors minds and then how we connected things through our experiences, so first we worshiped animals (bears in particular) and then there was the mother goddess and it just kept changing from there until a few jewish sects decided on the one god idea and here we are. Other societies had one gods but it just never stuck until sometime in the past three thousand years so its still a farily recent idea. So did man create religion: YES and you want to know who? I would say the desire of many to try to make sense or a world that made less sense as our awareness grew so religions were created to help make sense of it all, but today we actually have some real information unlike what our ancestors had. This is a big issue so you will get lots of posts here
i think religion was created by man to help himself get through the things he couldn't explain, and is culturally defined, ergo necessitating more than one religion. but i think it's all the same. i also think that perhaps something that was developed initially to help many, was taken over and edited over time for personal gain and power by just a few.
Religion is Manmade ideas and traditions formed from the result of Man's concept and interpretation of God. Salvation, Atonement, Forgiveness, Mercy, Grace are God's Ideas.
Followers of Jesus Christ were first called "Christians" at Antioch by the "Religious people" who opposed The Church. For some reason the title stuck. God never meant for His people to be stuck in a Rut called Religion. Jesus did not come to earth to set up a Religion ... He came to set up the Kingdom.
It is still "Religious People" with their own ideas/traditions that come against God's plan. When many wars are fought, there is usually a "Religion" attached to the cause.
Many people have a form of worship ... established from a miracle that happened to a man ... they set up their own guidelines of what they say the man taught or believed. I could name those who set up religions with standards according to the desires of their own flesh but I won't. I could also name some "Religions" that have become acceptable practices because it tickles the ear to hear what is taught. What good would it do? I refuse to argue with anyone's "Religious" beliefs and practices.
I know In Whom I Believe and I don't try to FORCE my beliefs on anyone. I don't want anyone knocking on my door to shove their thoughts on me. If I ask them to come over or come in to share their beliefs with me, that's a different story ... if I let them "talk" with me, they had better be ready to listen to what I have to say!
And the reason I write this, someone asked the question ... I answer from historical knowledge obtained through years of personal study and experience...because I wanted to know for myself.

Indeed, I think as far as the bare bones go, you've pretty much defined it!
Man has to teach mankind how to act. We are not alone and we do effect others. The books of rules helps those who have no freaking idea how to act in society,
RoofusX: Religion only exists because people need to have the answers to:
Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going?
True, totally true, but it quickly became the first source of political power and thus there was an interest in vilifying rational thinkers who clearly realised that religion is an out an out con.
I feel that early man invented religion, possibly Homo habilis. The most likely first "god" was the Earth's star. Eventually, a member or two of the tribe became aware of plentiful food etc after Spring arrived and was thus able to make certain basic predictions and thus gained a certain amount of power within the tribe. Over time, a select few would have bought in some "rules" as a means of retaining and furthering their power; and thus was born religion. From that point on in became more about a question of control by the "priests" until we reach the point today where the rich AND the religions have a far too vast amount of control over our lives. THERE ARE NO GODS! All religions are anti-knowledge and because of this I firmly think that we should all strive to eradicate the ridiculous notions of religion. An atheist world would be a better world!
yes, it is man made. RELIGIoUSNESS happens only when a Buddha or a krishna or a christ is alive. When Christ diesthere is religion.Religion is the corpse of religiousnes. When religiousness dies, religion is born.Religion is a corpse. But many ppl. feel good with religion......
