The Bible says to teach a man to fish, sounds like a good educational system, especially with jobs training, would help. Of course that would only work where there was a desire to make something of themselves.

It has long been known that an across- the- board same percentage for everybody tax would actually be better for all parties involved. It would also encourage work ethic tremendously, because one would finally be actually getting ahead by actively getting ahead (working harder, and longer hours would not result in being thrust in another tax bracket, thereby erasing the financial gain. It is currently costly for the blue collar employee to work overtime, which is absolutely ridiculous). The solution is so rudimentary, yet is brushed off. Honestly.

Monopolies are a funny thing. Like Boycotts, they are technically illegal in the U.S., yet we see exceptions everywhere. For instance, utility companies, city transportation. In this area, we have only one non-satellite television "menu" available. They "get around it" by saying, "well, you can buy your own house and put up the satellite" (because duplexes and apartments won't allow the dishes to be installed). So, we have laws regarding monopolies, but they don't seem to apply. confused

Education is the antidote for poverty.

Take a look around at the wealthies nations and you will find the highest standards of education.

This is also why the Tiger economies of Asia continue to gain traction towards more equitable societies. They have been educating their citizenry more astutely for the last 30 years.

End ALL government programs for free housing, food, ect. End ALL taxation of the citizens by setting a tariff to fund the Gov. Require the Gov to run inside that budget from the tariffs. After all it is not the Gov's biz how much the citizen makes. Also that eliminates the cost to collect the taxes from the citizens. Those who collect the tariffs are paid from the tariffs.
This also ends the corps who cheat paying taxes. Taxes are based on a profit, and corps buy and sell their goods before they reach the country they are sold in. This eliminates their profits on paper and thus so goes their taxes. Require all tariffs to be paid at the port of entry before being sold. This makes an airtight tariff system that ends any cheating.
Make it treason to steal from the Gov. The citizen has more time to work to make more for the family, all the money wasted ends, the Gov is put a set budget, many more hours get freed to add to the GDP.

Eradicate Profiteering...!!
Ask a Fair price for a Quality product..!!

This starts at the supermarket...where a _single_ Green Pepper now costs anywhere between $.79 and $1.49
A Generic loaf of bread is a Dollar....where it used to be FOUR-for-a-dollar!
Coffee has gone Sky-high, too...
It used to be ...you could buy an actual Pound of coffee...till the prices went nuclear...
Then, they lowered the price by 10%...but made _The Container_ 20% Smaller..!!
And Cars..??
It's the Unions that have escalated their prices!
How can it be justified to pay a person anywhere between $25 and $40 an hour...
to push 4 bottons...400 times a day..??
Lastly . . . Car Insurance...very mad
How many of us have been forced to buy a new T V set...
because we've thrown a shoe, beer, potted plant or cat at the old one and shattered it...
Because your premium payments are just giving them more money to
ADVERTISE with...!!..??

If you haven't filed a claim in two years....
_Demand_ a 1-year-worth REBATE..!!

Wow, this topic has so many pros and cons, variables, reasons why one type of socialized service (such as Public Education) may be prudent and wise, while another (such as campaign funding) would not. It's not a fence-sitting debate; rather an issue that has a wide and diverse spectrum. For instance, I worked in the private sector of medicine for many years, and benefited from that career within the private sector. However, I am a firm supporter of nationalized medicine because it is not fair to get less than adequate care just because one is economically challenged. Those are the kinds of things that take priority. So, do I believe in Socialism? On certain rights and privileges for otherwise disenfranchised individuals, YES.

Education itself is not an antidote for poverty.

To erradicate poverty? No way! Sad but it is.
To diminish poverty? Yes, that can be done.

Forget about charity or government programs –at least here in Mexico- that trade people votes for some “help”.

How to diminish poverty???

- Educate people for life and for work and for being the most self sufficient possible.

- Educate people for eating healthful and in a budget.
(the intake of protein from soy or some inexpensive fishes could make a big difference in people’s life, including their size, therefore their Quality of life!)

- Make loans accessible –reasonable interest rate- for rural people to start their own small business.

Etc….

Absolutely. I sat on a board of auditors for scholarships for two sessions (years). We were appealing to lower income students, and quickly decided that majors in Anthropology and certain very diverse programs as well) did not fit the profile for the foundation's support. Students who were enrolling in professional fields with a marketable skill AND a need in their community were the only ones considered--Teaching, Nursing, Two-year medical tech programs, Office Management, etc...in general, careers that could be off the ground in two to four years. Personally, I think it is wonderful for people to follow their dreams, if they really want to be another Jane Goodall or Dr. Livingston, but we had an obligation to get people working. If you are asking for money to further your education, you had better have a game plan beyond a curiosity about the bug-grooming habits of marmosets and chimpanzees.

i think that to eliminate hunger among the poor stores should have to give all their unbought food to food pantries and free food places.
The people who can afford to should be able to buy food and the stores can make their money and the food that would normally be thrown out should be given to free food places. that way everybody would be happy.

Of course well directed education is beneficial but I don't believe that any education is ever wasted. Few tertiary courses actually prepare students specifically for the specifics of a real career. It usually indicates that a candidate was able to learn at one point which is the salient ingredient.

I believe that an educated workforce is much better equiped to adapt to the requirements of a transmogrifying market once they arrive there. How many BA students are actually employed directly in the arts? That's not to say that we should not stop teaching classical arts simply because this is a diminishing area for employment.

I work in engineering and the standard of graduates we recieve these days has dropped away. sometimes I think we would be better accepting arts students or accountancy majors as perhaps they might be more trainable.

Either way, we need more people who have learned how to learn. We don't expect to get candidates who know much about engineering...

My original point is that if you don't educate your citizenry, you are effectively condemining them to live at or below the poverty line ad inifinitum.

Jobs. Jobs and more jobs. People need to earn to live. Governments need to realise that cutting government spending as quick as they are is stifeling the worlds economy. We need growth for jobs.

This crises was caused by banks and not government spending (Except Greece) but in Europe the Germans seem heel bent of cutting deficets not matter what hardship that causes.

It is not the right way. Of course deficits need to be cut but over a longer time spell. They need to allow economies to start growing again and then cut slowly. And the more the economies grow the less cuts will be needed.

We need fairser tax systems too. I pay 42% TAX on my earnings after a small allownace but there are billionaires in Ireland who pay less tax than me. If I have to pay 42% after a certain allowance why don't they have to pay the same???
