Sorry Vinny, I never agreed she was ridiculed, I did say earlier in my opinion I didn't think she was ridiculed just as I didn't think she was bullied.
sofarsogood74: I know some religions believe we reincarnate into anything from a worm to a human. IMO all religions basically don't want to believe we just die and thats it. We are made of carbon just like a tree or a worm. When we die we die. Lifes over, thats it.
Some religions have heaven to avoid that thought, some have reincarnation, some believe all belivers will rise from the dead and share earth as a paradise. They all basically dont want to belive this is it. And thats fine, belive what you want but science says otherwise. Did the first carbon based lifeform have a soul? And then we all were reicarnated from that?
Science have never really come to any conclusion whether there is an afterlife or not. They can't even agree whether there is just one universe or many universes. They tell us about the big bang what was there before the "supposed" big bang? They will tell us there was a singularity but what was there before the singularity? Also many theories stating that there was no big bang at all but that our universe just evolved from a massive black hole from another universe. But I'm going off thread here a little. Of course your opinion that when we die everything is just black is entirely possible!

No worries Granuaile.
Skyblue: She wasn't originally but at the slightest hint that I thought she was a slice of ham short of a sandwich she banned me
I guess we both have a different view on what ridiculing is
vinny1967: I suppose people can imply from this comment last night, amongst the other triumphalist ones, would imply that others don't call it as it is ?? When the truth cannot be further from the truth. I guess it works both ways
Anyway I'm done with this as am off to play golf
Yes that would be a fair implication to make. Obviously my list was somewhat incomplete due to the haste which I replied.
Phoenix: Basically I believe you keep coming back to here in another body until you reach a certain level. Once you reach that level you enter a different dimension.
sofarsogood74: I can't accept that Mc because it was Pixie Dust made Peter Pan fly.
Santa's magic makes reindeers fly.
How dare you, these are my beliefs and i would prefer you didn't ridicule me and ram your beliefs down my throat, have some respect, if i met you on the street and you confronted me like that i would be scared stiff...just like a person that was afraid of dogs (but they really should just get over it)

what i really meant was dogs have been breed down from the wolf and human interaction between man and wolf is what led to domestication, my point could you have a loyal ape or monkey? dog and man are in many ways, more with us more than apes
mr1983: In the Christian religion, the bible differentiates humans from animals but Hinduism believes in reincarnation
I like Gurdjieff's idea that the Soul is a term which can be used to mean the mind or personal consciousness. Do animals have a personal awareness or mind other than their basic instinct? You should ask one
Christians have an idea of the soul which they were given as young children about the time they learned about the tooth fairy and Santa Clause: not a very mature concept. So they reject that childish idea of a black stained urn in their chest when they grow up and never take the time to study the mind sciences or experience any level of their own consciousness other than their normal waking state and drunkeness.

Actually never heard of his ideas until you mentioned him there. Interesting view. So am I right that he believed or taught that very few men have souls. That we are living in a sleep which we must wake up from. And because animals don't develop through life and don't have personal awareness, they don't have souls!

I think he was more of the opinion that we had them but didn't use them so they were probably dried up and of little use. A mind unused becomes smaller and smaller until you end up taking internet fights seriously
I like to go to the highest possible authority in finding answers to questions. Not a big believer but thought this might be the highest authority that used to be around on the subject of Souls...

LadyBlackAdder: Well, if you're looking for ecumenical consensus on any matter, I don't think you are ever going to find it. Are you really expecting it???
I never said I was looking for consensus. Just making a point that non-Christians might not look on your article as the highest authority.
stanley8m: I wouldn't be overly convinced on the souls, but they are intelligent, caring, compassionate and trustworthy. Dogs were domesticated at least forty thousand years ago and have evolved along with us into the modern world. From my own experience of being a lifelong dog owner, I would say they are a great judge of human character. If a dog takes a dislike to someone there is usually a good reason.
There was no such thing as a dog 40,000 years ago, only wolves.
