I can understand how some bad apples spoil opinion, but it seems that that is all that is remembered.
For those of us in the U.S. I'd like ya'll to recall 9/11 then ask yourself if you were caught in a collapsing building who would be the first persons rushing in under threat of life, with out official orders from anyone, to dig you out?
We are quick to criticize them but I know for a fact that we don't know a tenth of what they do or put up with... well I do actually since it's what I study. In most every country there job is rated the MOST stressful career you can ever have with the least benefits.

It's easy to put down the Police, it's almost fashionable, but they do an extremely hard job under trying conditions and get little thanks for their efforts, i for one appreciate what they do for us.

for my knowledge...in london the law says u cant go around on the street with glass bottle opened... hmm strange around Victoria Station. area happened few times i saw young boys and girls walking on the streets with bottle of beer or alcoholic drinks opened and they was drinking it,passing the COPS patrolling the area... and COPS didn't said a thing to them... so how's that thing? isn't the law the same for all? oh but COPS did went to bother an homeless was drinking a beer sitting on the floor minding his own business...
Cops here in my home town are always too busy getting their asses full of coffee and doughnuts’. (This goes for state troopers as well). And beating innocent people for no apprent reason......when cameras aren't around.

on the 21st September 2011 i got home from work early about 4:00 and found my house broken in and stripped. I knew the Items were not gone because i live with bushes near by but with roads around like inside a square. I didn't know if the robbers had guns so i went to the police to ask for assistance. they told me to have a seat and stop acting as if i have a greater emergency than everybody. I went home and search but by then it was dark. 10 days later i found a few items inside a long ago burnt down house that was near me and was overgrown with bushes. I went in the house from the same night but all the light i had was the glow of my phone. It took 40 something visits over one year and two months before the police finally got to searching the house of one of the three suspects and this was after complaining to higher authorities and proving that they lied to me on four occasions. a threat was made to demote three of them but i don't know if it happen or was just said to make me feel better.

More than I would a random stranger... And I actually feel quite sorry for them having to fight crime with one hand tied behind their back, it's not a job i'd have the patience for.
To hurry or not it's their random decision. Police's job is better after something illegal happens, one can expect more justice from investigator officials than from a lynch mob.
Here's what I know---I have a home in the biggest county in Oklahoma, when I first purchased the home, there was no 911 access--being that I lived out in the middle of nowhere, I called the sheriff's office and they told me if I called and it was an emergency, it would take them in the least 45 min-hour to get to me---I rest my case on why I will take the law in my own hands

Not just your area. That happens all over where there is not good law enforcement coverage. I have lived far out of town and no what you are saying. I live in town now and I will say I do get a fast response. But sometimes I just stand there in bewilderment when some young smuck says something so childish and I am suppose to depend on him? I called one time someone had been stealing bikes and hiding them by my house. The young officer looks at all the bikes and then ask me do you want me to load them up and take them to the station. I just stood looking back at him shaking my head and holding my tongue. I wanted to tell him so bad no you just stand there and wait they will hop on up there on their own in a minute. I ended up picking up and loading most of them myself. Wet behind the ears cop.

Let me see if I can understand this.
First, you said "I knew the Items were not gone"
You didn't know if the robbers had guns and you went to the police for assistance
What assistance did you need? Nobody was beaten or killed. And you said you knew nothing was stolen.
I agree the B&E (Break and Entry) should be reported but if you acting like it was more important then other cases they were working on.....which could have been a matter of life and death....then you deserve to be told to sit and wait.
You found things you didn't know were stolen and you were told that the officers who didn't pay attention to you would be demoted.

lol--wow! sad thing is I personally know a couple of cops that it still shocks me that they even got hired---kind of scary really--now if anyone should have to go through a massive mental background check, it should be those fellows

You are so correct that some cops skimmed they way through the psyche tests. We have a peep right on here who is in law enforcement and judging from things he posts, it's scary that he's got a gun on his hip.
There are good and bad in every profession. You can't blame the whole for the wrong of the few

once upon a time,absolutely...they were the "good guys" as far as i was concerned and i always stuck up for them..however,for a very long time now, without going into a long story..lol..they have given me plenty cause to not trust them completely and they have fallen far from their pedestal...just to be fair,i will say that we cannot say that 100% of them are bad...95% sounds about right,though..:)..:)
Somewhere around the late 80s cops were required to change their motto from 'Protect and Serve' to 'Citizens are the Enemy'. Now take that 6 months of training of not the shiniest apples on a tree.... give them permission to bully, arm them and let them out on the streets. Then ask yourself who gains from that?
I guess it depends on where you are in the world, over here the police are generally good, but there have been instances where police conduct has been called into question but that in itself can be said to be true of all police forces in the world.
So yes i trust them, not to solve my problems but to assist and help me if it was ever required.
I would rather live in a world with police than without.
