Serene, I know the feeling and Italy is expensive on top of your loss on the Euro.
If you could find friends to travel with you, it would be cheaper.
You could rent a villa in the area you would like, sea, country or mountain. This is one of the sites, many others if you look.
Or you have Agritourism in Italy, accommodations in farms.
Maybe a package deal would be cheaper.
Who knows, you might make the journey someday?

Nah, I am happy. Women come, stay a few months, then leave, a week or a month later there is another one. It's cool. In my experience there has been a heck of a lot of truth to the old US joke, why is a pretty girl like a street car? If I lived in a different society, maybe that would not happen, but here it does. When both are happy both stay together.
